Weekly Challenge #8 - Children

Weekly Challenge #8

The 8th weekly based challenge here, for anyone who is interested.

The rules are as follows:

1. Post ONE photo (max 800x800) as a response to THIS post.

2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be color or B&W, your choice.

3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.

4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.

5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.

6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day or so for the judge to choose the winners.

7. Any camera will do but it must be a Pentax.

This week's theme will be "Children"
Be it your own, someone close to you, or challenging yourself to walk around and talk to parents to try something you've never tried before, the theme this week is children. I chose this because starting next Saturday, I will be moving back to Kamloops to return to a career I never should have left in the first place. Childcare. So I'd like to celebrate that by seeing what everyone here can do with these naturally brilliant photography subjects.

The challenge starts now and ends on Sunday, Feb 11th, 9pm Pacific time. Good luck!

Former Challenge Themes have been:
Week 1 - Statue
Week 2 - Wheels
Week 3 - Speed
Week 4 - Peace
Week 5 - Survival
Week 6 - Macro
Week 7 - Mountains

The Sly Thrill of Victory

My nephew Max is one of my favorite subjects.

This was my sister's favorite from a recent family gathering - Max is an expert Connect Four player and was beating the pants off my dad.

And yes, he needs a haircut.

Oh, get a pen and draw on your sister's chin and make her be upside down and make faces. It is all great fun for children. It is nice to see them stay young for awhile.

Betsy, I can't see your image, even after 3 or 4 refreshes... and I know it'll be a great one. Drat.

There's a first time for everything, so here's my first entry in this sort of challenge. I don't think it's up to the quality of most of the images posted so far, but here goes...

My youngest son looking out the living room window:

K10D + SMC Pentax-M 1:1.7 50mm, 1/400s, f/1.7, ISO400

It's one of the first photos I took with my 50mm f/1.7 prime. I know the focus is not quite right, but I find the softness gives it a "vintage" (not sure if it's the right word) feel.

Could not decide

So many good pictures (I think) of my kids apart but thought I should get one of them together. So went with this one. One of the out takes of our Christmas Card shoot. I wanted this one my got out voted for a nicer traditional shot.

I moved it to a public folder. It's odd, because I haven't had any problems at the other forum with my pictures showing up using that same method for private galleries. So here's Max . . .

There we go. That link worked. It's funny, because the original post is *still* not showing an image.. not even an X anymore.. and I've cleared my cache and done just about everything I can think of.. must be some kind of weird ISP issue or something.

I think we need a sticky somewhere on this...

To post an image from pbase do not use any url that has anything before "pbase.com". I right click and choose "copy link location" (Firefox, XP). Can't give a technical explanation for this, it's discussed somewhere on some forum in pbase, and I've totally forgotten the details.

Julie

...and after posting this, I can finally see the image! Sly indeed - nice capture.

Betsy,

It's hit and miss for me. More often than not, I see the x. I right click on it and click show image a couple times, and then it pops up.

Weird!
