Weekly Challenge #325 May 22nd-27th "If you go down to the Woods Today"
Posted By: StephenHampshire, 05-22-2015, 12:20 AM

Prompted by some nice weather recently, and the recent show of bluebells here in the UK, my theme for this week is
"If you go down to the Woods today....."

Show me your woodland scenes, trees, plants animals, people in the woods, spring autumn summer or winter scenes....I might be in for a surprise!

To run till Midnight 27th as we are a bit kate starting this week!

Rules:

1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Photos from any Pentax camera (film, compact, DSLR, etc.) -- or a Samsung DSLR -- are allowed.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Some samples.....

Horrible Spider Nest

Spider nest found in the woods. Copious babies.

Dancing Fairies

When the sun sets down, the fairies of the wood come out. Sometimes, when a ray of light finds its way through the dense canopy of trees, these beings can be seen by us mere mortal beings. But even then, most of those lucky enough to spot a fairy will mistake them for a mosquito. Fools! They will never know the luck that was bestowed upon them.

Took this last fall in the woods behind the house. The yellow leaves were capturing the last of the sun rays as it was setting.

Sometimes you find things that just don't quite belong. This woods was probably cleared land many years ago and was the site of an oil field. There are many other relics of the oil boom days hidden by the vegetation.

A Feral Rooster Blocking My Way to the Beach

I was hiking along a well-worn path in the rainforest of western Maui heading to Honolua Bay when I chanced upon a feral rooster. This guy stood still for a minute or less but long enough for me to snap his best angle. I must have taken at least 5 photos and this is the one I like the most with the midday sun highlighting the head/neck and the white feathers on the rump

My nomadic shelter is in the bottom right of the image. If you're in the right place, all you have to do is roll out of bed when it starts to get light and snap a picture.

Sometimes it's better to go while daylight. Who knows what's lurking in those shadows.

So many great shots! Well, sometimes when I go for a walk in the woods my trail takes me up and over ridges; a view from whence I came.

If you go down to the woods today-there are always pleasant surprises. Kruger National Park.
