Challenge #343 "The more the merrier"-sometimes
Posted By: charliezap, 02-27-2016, 09:41 AM

Many times being with people can enhance the fun and excitement of a given situation.Sometimes it can be a distraction.Your assignment boys and girls is to submit either a positive shot or a negative one that fits the challenge.Sharing the good times does have its limits so let's see what you can come up with that will make me think "I really like that shot"--charliezap

The challenge will end at midnight Sunday March 6th-2016

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Here are some examples positive and negative. What's up your sleeve?

Now this theme will bring in a lot of better shots than mine, Charlie, especially because I don't have many group shots. However, when on geology field trips, a larger group isn't necessarily a merrier group. If nothing else, the outcrop can be harder to see if too many people are standing in front of it. So in this case,...

At the Outcrop, a Smaller Group is Better

By the way, this is a digitized slide from Kodachrome shot with a Pentax K-1000.

Well, after looking through a couple years worth of photos I could not find a human crowd image that fits this theme. I want to participate so will go askew and enter this one (unless a crowded photo opt arrises in the next few days.)

As a birder myself Tess I would say that this does fit the theme.--charliezap

Grand Prismatic in Human Form

Sometimes I get a little frustrated with the crowds when trying to grab a photo from a national park. Then I remember that everyone is there for the same reasons I am, to have a great time, see some beautiful places and take selfies . All kidding aside, Grand Prismatic is beautiful at any time but, when the misty morning light hits, the colors from the steam are like a subtle rainbow. Almost impossible to capture without people in it. I did manage a couple without people but this one turned out to be one of my favorites because the clothing of the crowd seemed to mimic the colors of the geyser. Wish I had a bit more foreground but there was no way I was going to be able to get them to line up again .

Here's the biggest crowd I saw this weekend. Shot this at 3200 ISO, 1/20, a good bit after sunset.
