#345 Pictures of the Wind
Posted By: ffking, 03-17-2016, 11:45 AM

OK - so I've given this no prior thought, having no expectation of even being in the top 3 - and I've no idea what's been done recently, so please accept my apologies if this repeats something, but I'll call the theme Pictures of the Wind - images showing the effect of the wind on things, either natural or man-made - long-term or temporary -interpret as you wish - and have fun!

The competition ends 11.00pm Thursday 24th Mar 2016(UK Time) (hope it's OK to change the day as I started late - the previous one wasthe first one I've entered

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I have a bit of an obsession with the unpredictable results that come from slow shutter speeds, however I don't actually shoot nearly enough of them. Here is my entry. A slightly older shot, but one of my favorites.

Model: PENTAX K-5
ISO: 80
Exposure: 20.0 sec
Aperture: 13.0
Focal Length: 15mm
Flash Used: No

I also went with a personal favorite from last winter. Last year was a really cold and snowy winter. This was taken late on acold Sunday afternoon as the light was fading. And it was windy, I remember the wind and snow in my face and setting the tripod up to get a low angle, I think I was lucky not to get frostbit.

No one can see the wind itself, but its effects can be easily shown. Lac La Ronge in Saskatchewan on a very poor day for boating.

Waves

Kviljobukta after two stormy summer days. Those are indeed 5 people on top of the rock. A deadly shallow stretch of the south-western coast of Norway in the past, today a popular (kite-)surfing destination.
