PROJECT 52-8-13- Perspective - Low/frog perspective
Posted By: noelcmn, 03-28-2016, 01:53 AM

Welcome to Project 52-8 for the year 2016. And we are onto perspective, a regular feature of Project 52 and this week we are getting onto the real low down of photography LOW PERSPECTIVE or as it has also been called-FROG PERSPECTIVE. Glancing through the archives of previous Project 52 low perspectives, it would appear that Pentaxians love getting down on the belly . I for one, will stick to my miniature tripod. Great photos in previous challenges.

Please also note I've added another "rule" about posting additional images (rule 8), not only because it was mentioned in Project 52-8-11, but it has also occurred in the past, creating some confusion. And an additional note on the use of phone images in Rule 5. These rules are multiplying at a rate of knots

Images for Project 52-8-13 are to be taken between Monday 28 March 2016 through to Sunday 3 April 2016. Closing times is midnight in your time Zone.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be to have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques
with fellow Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore. The theme/sub-concepts are chosen by the facilitator every week. You are only
required to submit a photo taken during the week of the challenge, and in keeping with the theme/sub-concept and be willing to be the judge if you win.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-8 thread for the week. Explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed. Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot,
Medium Format, et cetera. And we will include images taken with phones as well.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging. It is up to the discretion of the current week's
Judge to accept or decline early/late entries i.e. a day earlier or a day late. Usually there is some flexibility here to allow as many entrants as possible. BUT
PLEASE DO NOT POST IMAGES TAKEN DAYS OR WEEKS OUTSIDE THE PERIOD OF THE CHALLENGE. TRY TO KEEP IT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE
TO THE TIME FRAME.
8. Additional images are welcome, but please keep them to a minimum. If more than one image is posted, make sure you identify your entry for the challenge.
Additional images should also please comply with rule 1 and rule 7.
9. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.
10. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next weeks Project 52-8 and may not participate in the challenge.
11. The host/facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.

The weekly dose of Pentaxian inspiration -all from previous Project 52 challenges

And one, though not a winner, I simply like

"Purple and White Delight — With Raindrops" was captured with my Pentax K-x with SMC Pentax Macro 1:4/100.
It is cross-posted from the social group Daily Challenge.

I have captured close-up images of this crocus or the bloom next to it on other days — either with raindrops or snowflakes. This time I wanted a very low viewpoint, even if it meant showing only part of the flower.

Thanks very much, Noel, for hosting this thread and for the honor of having my image from 2012 among the images with which you introduced the thread.

Best wishes to all, and I look forward to seeing your images.
Stu

Great shots Stu and Eva. There's plenty of room for more entries, folks, and more than a day to shoot and post!

In an abandoned theme park -- a shot from my first color roll in medium format (Pentax 645 & A-35mm lens). Crouching counts, yeah?

Ready to Land Cargo

My submission for this week highlights my love for the extreme perspective distortion that you can achieve in a low/frog perspective. The 'distant' bees are well within 1m (3ft), while the roof is 6m (20ft) higher.

I think a frog would be out of his mind to take this perspective, but the bees did not mind placing the K-5 with HD DA 15mm right below the hive's entrance - really low.

I had shot this perspective earlier wider but wasn't very happy with the results - the Sigma 8-16mm didn't handle direct sunlight very well. Turns out that even the flare buster HD DA 15mm, which I meanwhile acquired, struggled. Only a large reflector on the ground and waiting 'til the sun hid behind the roof helped to manage the contrast and allowed to post-process (Rawtherapee) for the group portrait. It's still a stretch, shutter a bit slow, but I'm happier than with my last attempt.

No that's not a buffalo in the back yard, it's Annie the dog snooping around a tree.
