PROJECT 52-8-14- Perspective-birds eye view/high vantage point.
Posted By: noelcmn, 04-04-2016, 11:40 AM

Welcome to Project 52-8 for the year 2016. And we are onto perspective, this time "a bird's eye view/high vantage point. A new challenge for Project 52, and opposite of last weeks Project 52 challenge. Once again, an open enough challenge, and can be any "downward" image, including insects, and for the adventurous, a shot from a high mountain. and for the more lucky, a shot from an airplane/helicopter, Microlite or hot air balloon. Any image that conveys height/downward view in your perspective is acceptable. And this I expect will be more challenging than the Frog perspective which is relatively easy to achieve, this demands more effort. A not-so-quick search reveals a greater number frog perspective shots than aerial/birds eye view shots.

Please also note I've added another "rule" about posting additional images (rule 8), not only because it was mentioned in Project 52-8-11, but it has also occurred in the past, creating some confusion. And an additional note on the use of phone images in Rule 5. These rules are multiplying at a rate of knots

Images for Project 52-8-14 are to be taken between Monday 04 April 2016 through to Sunday 10 April 2016. Closing times is midnight in your time Zone.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be to have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques
with fellow Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore. The theme/sub-concepts are chosen by the facilitator every week. You are only
required to submit a photo taken during the week of the challenge, and in keeping with the theme/sub-concept and be willing to be the judge if you win.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-8 thread for the week. Explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed. Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot,
Medium Format, et cetera. And we will include images taken with phones as well.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging. It is up to the discretion of the current week's
Judge to accept or decline early/late entries i.e. a day earlier or a day late. Usually there is some flexibility here to allow as many entrants as possible. BUT
PLEASE DO NOT POST IMAGES TAKEN DAYS OR WEEKS OUTSIDE THE PERIOD OF THE CHALLENGE. TRY TO KEEP IT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE
TO THE TIME FRAME.
8. Additional images are welcome, but please keep them to a minimum. If more than one image is posted, make sure you identify your entry for the challenge.
Additional images should also please comply with rule 1 and rule 7.
9. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.
10. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next weeks Project 52-8 and may not participate in the challenge.
11. The host/facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.

And because this is a new challenge, and therefore no previous images that I can use for inspiration, I'm choosing some randomly from the Forum.
From Ash- just because he/she stole my heart just looking at this

And from jsherman999

And one from noelcmn with apologies

Hello everyone. Hope it's okay to join in. Here is shot from today. I was up on the ridge looking down at my dog who was looking down at the forest and distant hills.

I didn't make it last week but this week I'll get to play Here I am standing on top of the Clark Memorial Bridge on the Ohio River, between Louisville Kentucky, and Indiana. I'm in the center so I'm not sure in which state I'm standing at the moment When I saw this boat I was taking pictures wide open, so I just composed quickly and shot at f/1.7 with the F 50 1.7. I moved to f8 and took a couple more but the composition was gone, this is the only one that I was able to snatch that looked right. I'm glad the F 50 1.7 is sharp enough wide open

Happy to have you here! It's generally been a fairly small crowd and, having followed some of your excellent other posts, I hope to see more entries in PROJECT52.

I need to ask our judge if I can use shots from April 3rd. I was in Paris until the 4th but the 4th was my travel day - flight to JFK, then passport control, customs, recheck bags, exit and go back through security, more fun than we could stand. Many many many hours of lines. Then flight to NC and of course I drove home.

Then on arrival we collapsed being 6 hours time shifted...

Finally recovering.

In any case I have some shots that I would like to pick from on the 3rd for this contest. But that's up to the discretion of our judge.

Hope you're feeling better by now! I do have to travel from Germany to the USA, all the way into Pacific Time (9h difference), several times a year. Usually straight from the airport into a meeting room. Typically jet lag hits me worst on the 2nd night, hope you're over that by now.

What sets Project52 apart from the other weekly challenges for me is that it makes me think about planned shots according to the theme and sub-concept rather than using stock or just selecting a nice image of out of what I snapped. Something which I normally wouldn't do. So even if we'd happily accept an interesting birds-eye view of a one day prior Paris subject, at least I will, if you have a chance to spend some thoughts on the concept until Sunday, go for it! Without any pressure, you may still enjoy the exploration process. As usual, there'll be time on Monday to submit this week's shots.

Good to see you here again, Tess, and great you could return this week Christian. Uncle Vanya, hope you've recovered from jet lag by now. I've been away myself, but on the road and unable to spend a lot of time above it all like a bird. But this one is from a high perspective...

Pipeline in the Rain Pentax K-5IIs, DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.8 AL II, 1/90s, f8, ISO 100, handheld.

I went to this Hayden Run Falls becaus I knew I could get a view through the branches from above the falls in the Spring before the leaves all fill in. I changed the view a little to include a couple on the platform way down below. I was hoping to get some birds on the trees below, but no luck there. Sorry, it's a bit crooked to get it all in.

Wandering around a governmental building waiting for my number to be called. Found some fish and a man with a stick. Here's my view from above!

This image, Solo Flight, was captured at Whiting Overlook Park with my K-S2 and my old screwmount Vivitar 85-205mm 1:3.8 Close Focusing Auto Zoom.

Best wishes to all.

And I invite you to post images in the new thread of Pictures of the Week at https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/129-weekly-photo-challenges/318554-weekly...16-2016-a.html

Despite my best intentions I'm unable to come up with any vantage points for a birds eye view so far. If I come up with anything later today I will replace this. This was taken on 4/3/16 on our last day in Paris. My intention at the time was to take a shot not of Paris but of the sky above Paris. Thus I shot this one facing away from the landmark tourist attractions and framed it to get the clouds. Minimal PP was done to enhance the clarity - the small lens on the LX7 is subject to washing out due to harsh lighting from the angle of the sun. I also cropped the bottom slightly to emphasize the sky over the ground. Looking at this it feels like I'm a bird flying over Paris.

Judge - Feel free to disqualify this entry due to the date and the fact it was taken before I was aware of the contest. I feel it is the best I can share and wanted others to see it in the context of this contest. If I had access to a downtown roof today I would shoot a similar shot in Charlotte but no such roof is available only indoor venues.

Went out to see what high vantage point was available, and passed a small stadium and promptly stopped to see what I could accomplish. The fisheye came in handy.

Thanks for all submissions - including yours UncleVanya, which I will of course consider as indicated before. I hope I can post the winner thread tonight, but I still need to prep for an unexpected, short notice business trip starting early morning tomorrow, so it may only be Tuesday CEST.
