Weekly Challenge #348...SIGNS! Signs, Everywhere a Sign.
Posted By: LondonWombat, 04-25-2016, 06:41 PM

Like the song said, SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE A SIGN..... is the topic this week.

It may be a bit of a challenge because it may not be something we make a point of photographing as a usual topic. However, every once in a while the main subject is a SIGN in a photo. It could be a famous road sign, funny sign, old and faded sign, historically significant sign, luminous like a neon sign, or a poignant comment once viewed in relation to other subject matter in the photo. There are in fact plenty of reasons to photograph a sign (of some sort).

Sometimes, a normal sign in a photo can be brought up to an artistic level by way of image manipulation: Monochrome, colour isolation, contrast enhancement, grain effect, etc.

So, dig in your archives and or go outside and take a photo of a sign. Or treat a photo to some photo magic and make a photo of a sign sing with new colours, tones, and/or effects.

I'm sure as a community we can come up with some great signs that won't be messing up our minds!

Oh yeah, contest closes midnight Sunday MAY 1st, MIDNIGHT.

PS. Thanks to Rollsup for the previous contest.

Some examples.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Ricoh DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Full marks for creativity in using available materials, sign placement and a clear message, not so good for layout. These hay bales are wrapped with plastic, so no worries about cattle ingesting spray paint later.

Maybe there's a roll in the hay planned for later.

WOW, what a great bunch of photos so far. This one is hard because I like taking photos of signs and have hundreds.

Where do we go now?

While on vacation in Madeira Beach Fl I noticed this sign in a restaurant on Gulf Blvd. It took on a fun look by using the on board filters in the Pentax K5 II s. The first shot is my official entry. The 2nd shot is what the original scene was like.--charliezap
