PROJECT 52-8-22- Architecture- Old
Posted By: noelcmn, 06-01-2016, 04:56 AM

Welcome to Project 52-8 for the year 2016. We move along to another exciting theme, that of Architecture, and starting off with Old or ancient architecture. And this should get us all off our couches and into the cities/countryside. Remember churches offer an easy enough solution, as do old courthouses.

Images for Project 52-8-22 are to be taken between Monday 30th May 2016 through to Monday 6th June 2016. Closing times is midnight in your time Zone

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in the challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be to have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques
with fellow Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore. The theme/sub-concepts are chosen by the facilitator every week. You are only
required to submit a photo taken during the week of the challenge, and in keeping with the theme/sub-concept and be willing to be the judge if you win.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-8 thread for the week. Explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed. Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot,
Medium Format, et cetera. And we will include images taken with phones as well.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging. It is up to the discretion of the current week's
Judge to accept or decline early/late entries i.e. a day earlier or a day late. Usually there is some flexibility here to allow as many entrants as possible. BUT
PLEASE DO NOT POST IMAGES TAKEN DAYS OR WEEKS OUTSIDE THE PERIOD OF THE CHALLENGE. TRY TO KEEP IT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE
TO THE TIME FRAME.
8. Additional images are welcome, but please keep them to a minimum. If more than one image is posted, make sure you identify your entry for the challenge.
Additional images should also please comply with rule 1 and rule 7.
9. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.
10. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next weeks Project 52-8 and may not participate in the challenge.
11. The host/facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.

Happy clicking

My apologies folks- this is late, and for an excuse I was preparing for my participation at the funeral service of my friend/pastor/mentor,. which happened yesterday. I was asked on Monday morning to participate and that threw me somewhat.
Because I am late, I have therefore extended the closing date by a day to Monday 6th June.

Kansas City Power and LIght Building, completed in 1931, was once the tallest building in Missouri. The spire lights up every night... at the time I took this photo, the red and blue lights just came on, but are faint in the photo. There's another version on my Flickr page, handheld with SR on, that looks about as good as this one taken on a tripod with a slightly faster shutter speed. The K-1 is awesome!

Sorry to hear about your loss!
On the other hand all these beautiful images of churches from around the world should console you that it is only beginning for your friend.
Here is one from Moscow.

Taken yesterday at Death Valley...more of an abstract way of seeing architecture....these sand dunes have been there for hundreds of years, so I think this picture qualifies for this contest

We are in Niagara Falls right now visiting my son. Being here gave us the opportunity to go out photographing old buildings... and there are plenty to choose from.

This one was built in 1883 and was known as The Dominion Public Building. It was a post office and a customs house till 1952. And then from 1952 to1976 it was the local police station. It has been abandoned ever since. Walking around this part of Niagara Falls, so close to the extremely popular world renowned attractions, was like walking in a ghost town... empty streets, all buildings abandoned and in a state of disrepair, no people. Really strange given the beauty and longevity of this old architecture.

My condolences Noel, be happy for friendship life, and his new life.

Not old by Old World standards, but here it is. Hopefully this shows the contrast between the style of architecture of different times.
Congrats ramseybuckeye!
