Thanks to Tamia for a great contest last week and to all the entrants.

I would like to propose a contest theme that has the potential to run for nine weeks, if forum members wish to continue it. I'm perfectly fine if this idea ends after this challenge.

My idea is for a weekly challenge to start with BLACK, then each subsequent week, move through all colors of the visual spectrum (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) and then end with WHITE in the final week (end of November).

In the beginning, all was dark. Total blackness.

Well that's what a few people in history have said. There was no light, nor colour.

Show me your best photos that are predominantly BLACK.

They do not have to be totally black, but heavily skewed to the darkest of tones...from very dark grey and stepping up to the ultimate black (and not very very very very very dark blue).

The photo can also be in colour, whereby the main subject is BLACK or the majority of the photo is BLACK.

- Guidelines for each week would be that minimum 'Black' or 'colour' or 'white' area should be 60%.
- Brownie points given to photos that do not have flowers (algae, fungi, leaves, moss, lichens, etc are exempt).

THIS WEEK IS BLACK.

The Challenge will close on Monday 10 October, midnight in your time Zone.

The Rules:

1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Ricoh DSLR ) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, then the winner will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

My friend in Saugus Ma. invited me to his hillside home so that I could take some shots of the Harvest full moon in September. The landing approach to Boston's Logan Airport is a few miles away and the timing and elevation was perfect for a jet to cross the face of the moon.I used the Sigma 50-500 for the outing.The 2nd shot shows the view that I had.The ist shot is my entry for the challenge.---charliezap
