Weekly Challenge #66 - Iridescence
Posted By: Bud, 07-28-2008, 07:01 PM

Weekly Challenge #66 - Iridescence (Amended to include "shiny stuff"... I like that... hope you don't mind Salty! )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inspired by the colors and lighting in last week's challenge I have picked a subject/theme that I really enjoy finding in nature:

"Iridescence"

Iridescence is defined as "a play of lustrous, changing colors". There are many items / objects that capture light and when viewed from different angles give a very different appearance. I'm looking for your interpretation of the term and how you capture it in an image. Some examples of things that might be described as iridescent in the right light are the outer shells of certain insects, butterfly wings, bubbles, chrome, sea shells, pearls, crystal....

Please submit entries until midnight EST on Monday, August 4, 2008.

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be colour or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.

I'm really starting to like close-up photography. I suppose now I'll have to get a dedicated macro. Anyway, here is my entry.

I'm really liking the variety so far... there's nothing hard and fast about the submission parameters... just your interpretation of "irisdescence" or "shiny stuff" .

One day left... keep 'em coming!

The Newfoundland short neck beer bottle which replaced the stubbies a few decades prior. They are the only type of beer bottle that's reused in the province. Any import/long neck is simply recycled and shipped back out. This particular Iridescence labeled Labatt can be found is most homes or in nature during the May 24th weekend or on a trip to the cabin or camping in the local gravel pit. Other sightings of this particular bread can be found after beach fires or a nite of underage drinking in the woods.

My entry, perhaps not totally iridescent, but flashy nonetheless. Pentax K10D, kit lens, timed exposure with tripod.
