Picture of The Week (POTW) 451 April 10 — April 22, 2017
Posted By: smf, 04-15-2017, 09:58 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week (POTW).

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator, via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW thread hosts: 1 Peter Zack, 2 Eaglerapids, 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 First Trip with K1

Took a trip to Nashville with my wife who really wanted to see the country music hall of fame. We got back first week of April, going through pictures now.

This is K1 with the 28-105 @ 34mm, F4.5, iso800, 1/50. I think I compressed it a bit much with lightroom.

Spring break in Shikoku, Japan. All of these were taken with my K-5 and my spanking-new DA 16-85mm lens with which I am extremely pleased. Photos 1, 4 and 5 were taken at different Buddhist temples--some of the "Shikoku 88". The others were taken while hiking between temples. Some Buddhist pilgrims will hike to all 88 temples on the circuit, which can take two months. We visited about 15 of them but, despite hiking about 70 miles over the course of a week, we still had to rely on some buses, trains and taxis. The Torii gate made of speakers was up a side-road and I just happened to see it from a distance and wondered what it was. Whacky...

these two European Starlings were found in the Scovill Zoo in Decatur Illinois while I was taking photos of the cheetahs experimenting with my K 3 and a vintage lens: Vivitar Series 1 2.8-4.0 70 - 210 mm macro zoom [1:25] mf (ver. 3, Kosine). All photographs taken starting at 3:08 and ending 3:09 PM (15:08 - 15:09) local time on April 15, 2017

[ recently my image of European Starlings was changed by an excellent photo by Inteligente in the " PentaxForums.com → Pentax Lenses and Accessories → Lens Clubs → The 300mm plus lens Club discuss your long lenses " #25247 - my earlier thoughts were that they were loud birds found in mobs and dull black with a twinge of purple around the head. ]

____________________________

the first guy flew across my line of sight quickly landing on the tree disappearing into a hole and I thought ??? that wasn't a woodpecker or flicker what was it? then it stuck its head out.

the other flew into view and alit on a near by branch and would move its head as I photographed it reacting it would seem to the shutter release which reminded me of a high class model changing poses slightly in a photo shoot.

I love the delicate coloring flashes of green, brown, purple against the black feathers, the purple on the end of the beak (???) and talons (???)

This past weekend my brother, cousins, my son and I went to go do some shooting out at the BLM area in Tumey Hills/Ponoche Rd off of the I-5 in California. All photos taken with K3II / Sigma 17-50mm f2.8

This first photo is along Hwy 152 heading towards the I-5. Very green along this stretch of hwy.
1/200 f2.8 ISO 100 <50mm

This was the hardware we brought along. .308 bolt action rifle, 20g single shot shotgun, FAL, AR, 2 pistols (can't remember what kind both were .45)
1/250 f2.8 ISO 100 <17mm

My brother shooting his .308 Savage bolt action rifle.
1/500 f2.8 ISO100 <36mm

Group shot of us holding the hardware. NOTE: None of the weapons were loaded for this photo.
1/125 f5.6 ISO100 <22mm

My son after I guided him shooting the .45 pistol. Only one shot and he didn't want to shoot anymore. So he just played on the trunk bed of my brothers truck.
1/250 f2.8 ISO100 <23mm

My first post

I just found this forum. I have had a k-50 for over a year, but have just recently begun to try and take better pictures. These are from a weekend trip to KY Lake.

Pink moon rising. 2 shot pano cropped. Listened to Nick Drake.
There are more interesting mountains behind that cloud bank but I was happy the moon emerged.

The water is rising fast here now. I shot this with my son, showing him how to get this shot on my film 645. Super fun/proud dad moment there.
