Picture of The Week (POTW) 452 April 15 — April 29, 2017
Posted By: StephenHampshire, 04-22-2017, 07:29 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week (POTW).

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW thread hosts: 1 Peter Zack, 2 Eaglerapids, 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 Hi!

I have been lurking around for a while now and I thought I would join in. I have been using Pentax DSLRs for several years and am using a K-3 now. On the 14th I organised a "Film Noir" night shoot at a preserved railway station in Derbyshire, England. There were 10 other photographers and 2 models taking part, all on Purpleport.com, and some of the results are shown below. Needless to say I was the only Pentax there (there was only 1 Olympus too). These were taken using a Pentax K-3 with a DA 50mm f1.8 lens and processed over Easter week, using RAWTherapee.

Hope you like them.

Hello Andrew, and welcome! A nice set of shots, I like 2 and 4- the lighting is terrific. Having 1) attended various nightshoots with organisers such as Neil Cave and Timeline events, and 2) run a night shoot myself -see Mad Hants Charter group on FlickR, I know how difficult it is to get the lighting right, especially when you have a group of 'togs in tow expecting you to come up with the goods. One of my best "film noir" shots was of a re-enactor at a public event on the Watercress Line ...The Spiv | A reworked image from the "Christmas Leave" event? | Flickr also with a K3 and 50mm f1.8!

aaacb, good job you don;t use Pentax equipment as it is well known that it is incapable of capturing action shots!!

flickr should show it's a k3ii, but you're right, I edited the exifs to hide that I used different gear. Afaik Pentax has advanced scene detection to prevent action photography

To give a little background, all of them were from bursts focused with af-c but I let go of the focus button when I want higher fps and the subject is not moving.

Sprouts from dung!

A couple from yesterday morning's walk.
Sprouts from cow dung!
Dung seems to be worth much more than what we think it is, for sure!!
K-x, 100/f4, handheld
Minor crop, levels, and unsharp mask done.

Thought I'd give this a try, as I see some of my other "theme" friends have been placing their photos here, too.

These pics were taken a few days ago during a rather hefty rainstorm as I was driving around the downtown area. These shots were taken through the windshield resulting in a kind of abstract effect with the scattered light and distortion. Hope some of you might like them...

Thanks very much for hosting, Steve!

And thanks to everyone who posted images in this thread.

"Path Through Birches" was captured at Chippewa Nature Center's wetland area in Midland County, Michigan, with handheld Pentax K-S2 and SMC Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm

"Solo Swimmer" was captured from Whiting Overlook Park in Midland County, Michigan, with the K-S2 at 100mm, 1/1,600, ISO 800. I think the lens also was the SMC Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm.

These were both shot at a 1st bday party for the little girl you see in the photos.
K-30 with DA 18-55 WR (the cake face) and DA L 50-200 WR for the "shock and awe" photo
I had to be very patient and deal with other kids walking into the shots, but the patience paid off in the end. These are 2 of my favorites because both photos show a wonderful personality. At least in my opinion.
I can't figure out how to get the image to show up outside of Flickr so, here's links. Sorry.
