Challenge #395-- "You should frame that"
Posted By: charliezap, 08-01-2017, 06:55 AM

Once again I am honored and humbled to be hosting the Weekly Challenge.
The hardest part about hosting to me is thinking of a new theme but I think that we can all have fun with this one.

We all take many pictures of different subjects and I bet that many of us have heard from others that "You Should Frame That".We all have shots that would look good on a wall in our homes-places where we work-gifts for others--etc. The subject can be of anything and enhancements (PP) will be allowed for your frameable entry.I think that I have all the bases covered for this challenge. If not I'll be happy to respond to your questions.--The Challenge will close on Tuesday August 8 at midnight my time.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here are some examples to jump start your thinking.--charliezap

One-handed, through helicopter plexiglass :-) At first I did not want to spend $139 on the 15-minute flight, but the 7-day old blister on my heel did not want to walk another 1/4 mile to some tall ship at the pier.

i shot this image last November at The Embarcadero in San Francisco, me and my friend were there to shoot a sunrise behind bay bridge, it wasn't as great as we hope got this instead and quick temp adjustment created amazing shot, one of my favorite.

Taken last September on the Dom Luís bridge, Porto. While the majority were (sensibly) watching the setting sun, I had the good luck to glance down and catch a glimpse of the ever-lengthening shadows below. Not framed yet, but on the list.
great pic.i believe it would look even better in b&w

This one I did frame and offered it up in a fundraising raffle for a local sports club. It was won by the wife of a close friend. Whenever we visit I take a lot of joy in seeing it again. The picture is of a Red River Gum growing on the Murray River near my family home of Boundary Bend, Victoria Australia.

For this I went straight to my Patagonia images. With the landscapes, skies and wildlife down there, sometimes it seems you could get a great shot by pointing the camera in any direction. From that point it was difficult, but here's a pic of a herd of Guanacos in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile that brings together all three. I haven't framed it but it is on our refrigerator door (maybe a challenge for another day?). Previously posted.

Sunset at Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, I took this photo at the San Felipe del Morro Castle. Loved the way the sunset lights up the sentry box.

"Double Hung" was accepted for a juried exhibit of photographs and other art at Creative 360 in Midland, Michigan.

A friend, who printed it for me, suggested the title.

I was thinking to frame one of my shots as a present for a friend. Problem is that my favorite shots are almost never those that most friends like but if I were to frame it for me, I would chose this one.

I very rarely frame astrophotos because it's difficult to render a dark sky without having unpleasant gradient banding, but this one turned out ok. A blend of two 70 s exposures iso 400 with K-30 and Samyang 16 mm F2. Astrotracer was used to track the stars.

I took this at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park last week.
It happened to be on my laptop when my 11 year old son was near me so I had him look at it. For reference, whenever he sees my photos, he gives a very pained, teenagerish reaction usually along the lines of an unenthused "ok", or "cool".
This time he said "Wow, that looks like it would be on your tablet or a computer when you turn it on for the first time."
It was the most flattering reaction I've ever got from him, and in my book "that should be on a tablet" is the most modern iteration of "you should frame that".
