Weekly Challenge #398
This will be my first effort at hosing this week’s challenge. I hope I get this posted correctly and some of you find it interesting to participate in.
Many times I’ve looked at a photo I’ve taken and thought, wow, I messed that up. Then, upon further reflection, I discovered a way to turn a “Sow’s ear into a Silk Purse”, by cropping, post processing, etc. The object is to take a photo that was in your “Sow’s ear” list and create one for your “silk purse” list. For anyone who is not familiar with this phrase, the definition is to turn something ugly or inferior into something attractive or of value. Similar to the last challenge, doing this has encouraged me to learn more about post processing and how to use various programs to alter/enhance a photo or create something of value from what started out unusable. Again, for this week’s challenge, please post a before and after shot for your entry and explain what you did to turn it into something of value.
This challenge will end on Friday Sept. 8 at midnight my time.
The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.
Rules
1. Post ONE photo (unless asked for a comparison photo), max 1024x1024.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your picture(s) in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here is an example. In this case, it was my first use of a new K-S2 and I was unfamiliar the whole P-TTL versus the old TTL flash I was trying to use. I had this portrait that I really liked the composition of, but due to the flash, it was totally washed/blown out and seemingly unusable, yet I didn’t want to give up on it. As was my winning image from last weeks challenge, this was run through multiple effects in Paint Shop Pro, Virtual Painter 5, to get the charcoal sketch look of the final.
I can’t wait to see how you all transform your “Sow’s ear into a Silk Purse”!
