Weekly Challenge #399 "In a Flash-Freeze Frame"
Posted By: charliezap, 09-10-2017, 09:50 AM

I hope that this challenge gets your creative and imaginative juices flowing. What I'm looking for is a shot that is made just by using your flash in capturing an instant in time. All my examples were taken at home and were relatively easy to produce. You can use your on board flash--shoe flash or any flash at all. Have some fun with this theme.----charliezap

The challenge will close at midnight Sunday September 17th

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here are some examples to jump start your thinking.--charliezap

I'll have to sit this one out as I don't have a flash. Looking forward to seeing the entries however. Should be a great challenge. Wonderful examples Charlie

If you have a flash on your camera it will work fine for this challenge.--charliezap

Agree, cool idea for a challenge and great examples.

I will definitely try to participate in this one, but will have to find time to do it, as I don't currently have much in flash photo's to cull from.

I have a lot of pictures of fast motion (ironically a recent set, but taken with my non-Pentax action cam). Does it have to be done with flash, or can it simply be a crystal-clear freeze of motion?

Failing that, tips on how to get the flash shot?

I am looking for shots that are captured by the flash. My coin shots were simple. I had the camera on a tripod and in my left hand I tossed the coins and with my right I tripped the shutter. It took a few tries to get a good shot.Try it out.--charliezap

Just for some additional posts for entertainment, here is one I liked better than my entry, but decided not to use it because, well, Charliezap already did quarters! The quarter looks like it is standing still on egde, but it is actually spinning to a blur on the glass table. These were a lot of fun to do.

Oh heck, why not. I do like the quarter shot better, I just didn't want to bore everyone by using quarters again. I like how the reflected quarter images look transparent.
