Weekly Challenge #400- Abstracts with Water
Posted By: noelcmn, 09-19-2017, 03:52 AM

Next to birds, Abstracts form the next largest subject that I photograph the most. And in particular I enjoy the challenge of creating abstracts with water. For this weeks challenge, let's see some water abstracts. Scope for playing with light, composition and colors are ample, and most lenses can be used for this medium. I look forward to your submissions.
The Challenge closes at midnight on Wednesday 27th September 2017.
The challenge submission must contain water in one form or another. And it would be wonderful if you can share your technique as well.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Good luck.

Some examples:

Spray Bottle half full

blotches of oil from birds gathered in a corner at Zoo Lake

Condensed water under a bowl lid, strategically placed above some colorful advertising paper.

Water on sand at sunset. I was actually photographing birds at the water's edge at Pearly Beach, South Africa, when this moment appeared during a scarlet sunset. A moment later, when the next wave washed over the sand, it was gone. It ended up looking a bit like a view of dunes from an aircraft. A lucky shot......

I was snapping pics of my niece playing at the shoreline at sunset with my K-7. Cutting the shutter speed down to 1/6 sec and using f4.5 at ISO 800 gave me this lovely sense of movement....quiet and soft.
NOTA BENE: This is not a competitive entry. According to the rules, only one image is acceptable, so I remove this one from "judging". (With apologies)

I was so lucky to catch these white-fronted plovers as if they were marching in step. They were running after retreating wavelets, as they do, to catch invertebrates in the disturbed sand. I was using an old istDL body and zoomed up fully on a 70-320mm lens, 1/25 f8 and ISO200.

Folks, my apologies, I should have included the rules of the contest in my original post, which I have now corrected. I have done so, seeing that we are getting more than one submission, whereas the rules are only one photo can be submitted.

NickDB, (and mikeSF) you also will have to choose one of those fabulous images as your official entry. But please do not remove them, they are too lovely.

Fab entries so far! Be merciful

To Noelcmn: My apologies, I was not aware of he single image rule. For simplicity, I have kept my first image as a competitive one but marked my next two as non-competitive. Thanks for the clarification.

Another water droplet refraction shot. Misted spider's web and out-of-focus gerbera flower behind, refracted in the droplets. K-3, Tamron 90mm macro, off-camera flash.
