Weekly Challenge 401 - Reflections with water - running 29th Sep through 6th Oct 2017
Posted By: NickDB, 09-29-2017, 08:51 AM

I have chosen to keep the water theme running for another week because water images intrigue me greatly. This time I am looking for reflections as the main theme, but with water in there somewhere. Apologies if this has been around before, but I am new to the "Challenges" category, although not so much to the Caption Contest. I look forward to reviewing your submissions of "Reflections with Water". Here is an image of the same beach (Pearly Beach, Western Cape, South Africa) where my previous image came from.

The Challenge closes at midday (my time, in South Africa) on Friday 6th October 2017, so comments and results should be out by the time you folk in the USA get up for breakfast on Saturday the 7th (if I remember). Otherwise, someone please remind me! I do get distracted quite easily.....

The challenge submission must contain water and reflection(s) in one form or another. And it would be wonderful if you can share your technique, and perhaps your settings, as well.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture (and only one picture) in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for at least 7 days, plus an additional day, if required, for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Reflections at Dawn

Beautiful photos submitted so far!

I took this just before sunrise at the Point in Pittsburgh a couple years ago. I wanted to get this reflection shot and had to get there early because they start the fountain at sunrise. In fact, while I was standing on the edge of the fountain taking photos (complete with tripod), I heard the pool start rumbling and had to scramble to get down before the water started flying. It was a pretty cold morning and that would've been quite unpleasant!

This was taken with the K-3 and DA 15 Ltd. f/13, .8s, ISO 100. A bit of HDR processing.

Reflection of Heron and Driftwood

This is an example of being in the right place at the right time. That driftwood stump is one of my favorite subjects. The heron perched on top made it even more special.

This photo was taken on a gray overcast day and the water was like glass. The white level was raised slightly to completely eliminate the clouds, both in the air and in the reflection on the water.

Most of my shots are landscapes so I'll go with that. Clouds reflected at sunset near Castlebar, Ireland.

What's up?--or down?

One of my favorite reflection pictures. Not many people have ever realized that the picture as presented here is upside down.---charliezap

Not sure how well this next one would qualify so it's not my entry, but I like it for all the subtle tones in the wet sand.
