Picture of the Week (POTW) # 472 - 11 September to 29 September 2017 - PentaxForums.com
After a warm dry winter and dusty start to spring we’ve had a couple of days rain here in Brisbane, and I’ve been out photographing some of the local street trees in flower.
The first 3 shots here are of a Silky Oak, the largest of our grevilleas, in flower. They’re often used for street or garden plantings and can put on a spectacular show. The wide shot was taken with a Cosina Cosinon 24mm f2.8 at about f 8 or f11, and the flower close ups with a Cosina Cosinon 135mm f3.5 at about f11. I was particularly pleased with the first close up as it was handheld with the camera above my head (the lowest flowers were about 10 or more feet off the ground) and the shutter speed was 1/50 sec. The second was a more mundane 1/160 second. I’ve never had the steadiest hands but have been reading up on how best to hold the camera steady after Alamo500 talked about doing this for some very nice night-time cityscapes a few weeks back.
The Jacaranda is another popular and showy street tree here, but is originally from central America and Mexico. Again the wide shot was taken with the Cosina 24mm, and the flowers the 135mm. The native lilly is also often used in public landscaping and gardens, and this shot was taken using a Cosina Cosinon 50mm f2 at about f8 with a Kenko +2 AC close up filter.
All these were taken on my K5.
