Picture of the Week (POTW) # 474 - 17 October to 24 October 2017
Posted By: aslyfox, 10-16-2017, 02:15 PM

Welcome to Picture of the Week (POTW) for the week ending 24 October 2017. It’s my pleasure to host this week, and thanks again to rjbrett for hosting last week.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away

feel free to start immediately, if not sooner

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM.

Brilliant shots to open with! - that cheetah looks especially good licking his chops as he walks away from his dinner bowl! (do they have dinner bowls there?) - what sort is the second cat in the grotto? And the size of those lenses! - I was pleased enough just holding my little 135mm steady last week!

I've got floral shots again (what a surprise!). Noticing the nice line up of these snapdragons I used a 20mm Promura C. P. Hilux which I'd seen handle these colors well before.

The bottlebrush pics were taken with a Cosina 50mm f2 at about f8 or f11. The first was with a Kenko AC close up +2 filter, and the second with a Mir red filter. I've been using the free version of XnView to crop and resize these, and it applies a default sharpening as it resizes. Looking at the first bottlebrush here I'm beginning to wonder if sometimes that sharpening isn't a bit too aggressive, and if I could possibly look at some of the other sharpening algorithms XnView offers in that function.

The first orchid shot was taken with the Cosina 50mm and Kenko Close up again. I used a bit of blue cardboard to back the final orchid shot, and for the first time tried the onboard flash and compensated down 2 stops. I was pleased it worked. I used the SMC A 50mm f2 for the auto setting to work with the flash, but could have done it more justice with better focus and depth of field. I used a tripod for all of these.

the cheetah and his brothers were fed meat balls thrown to them during the keeper's talk

but that was earlier I think he was doing his best Michael Jordon imitation when I took the photo

the other cat is known as a cougar, mountain lion, catamount, panther, painter, ghost cat, puma, shadow cat and more
