Welcome to Picture of the Week (POTW) for the period 17 - 31 October 2017. It’s my pleasure to host this week, and thanks again to Aslyfox for hosting last week.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away

feel free to start immediately, if not sooner

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM.

Starting us off with an Abstract

If you are wondering why I've skipped #475- and how I got to 476 that is because we had double #473.

The following are from last week's day trip to Boston with my wife.
1 Shot from the window of the Amtrak Down Easter.
2. Beacon Hill Garden in Shadows.
3. Bust of Arthur Fiedler near the Boston Pops Band shell on the Esplanade.
4. "The Goal" Statue of Bobby Orr after a Stanley Cup winning Overtime goal. Just Outside North Station and TD Garden.
5. Tom and Athena on the Esplanade overlooking the Charles river.
Thanks for looking.

Thank you Noelcmn for hosting! - Is that a native bee there? Your shots always have such good color.

I got an Industar-61 L/Z 50mm (preset close up to 1:2.5 or so) in the mail last week, and have been up early in the mornings catching small things while they're still cool and sluggish. All of these were taken handheld at ASA 400 at about f8 - f16, and using 11 or 20mm extension tubes. I've started processing these from raw for greater detail and control, not that they needed too much. They've been cropped by 1 - 2/3, and sharpened on downsizing.

I suspect I'd get sharper and more detailed pics using the Takumar macro but am enjoying the slightly "dreamy" look as these fade into a blur.

I tried to get meteor shots weekend before last. I technically got some but it was so windy they are blurry and not up to my standards.
After the sun came up saturday morning, I could see the strorm that brought the wind brought some snow as well.

I got some good stuff last weekend.
Took the K-3 & 18-135 biking and hiking.

Last night I was fortunate to shoot a nice sunset from a good location. It was a little windy but tolerable.

Spent an early morning in Long Beach, California for an Easter Seals event that the photo club I'm in volunteered to photograph. I always grumble about being up so early, and I always end up grateful that I was.

I've always loved that breed of spider, little jade creature.
I let my battery get run down and it reset my date to 2006. Fixed now, so I'll do a little shooting this weekend.

FYI I like the second one best--just a little touch-up but you get the whole bird.

thank you for the comment

I was able to capture the image in a way that it makes it difficult to tell that the bird is in a zoo exhibit.

when I first saw the bird, I thought that if I could get the focus onto the bird the leaves would be a " frame "

I too like the image which is the first crop but I went one further just to see how well it would hold up to a bigger crop.

Wow, excellent work everyone! I wish we had such diverse subjects in my area

Here are a couple more from our trip to northern Michigan, plus one from the backyard. The one with the berries was one of the first shots with a new Sigma 17-50mm 1:2.8 EX DC HSM that I picked up recently (used). So fare I'm very pleased with it.

Wow indeed. Great week for POTW!

I spent last weekend in Seoul. LIved there from 2008 to 2012 but hadn't been back until this trip. I still love it. We had fabulous weather and did some touristy things like visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace where, if you rent period costume, you get a discount on admission. It makes for great atmosphere and photos, though the "dabbing" probably isn't historically accurate (clearly not everyone, myself included, "gets" dabbing). The van bears a sign demanding the immediate release of impeached President Park Geun-Hye.

I only brought my K-5 and my DA 16-85 F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR lens with me.
