Weekly Challenge 404--Neon on Black
Posted By: Barbara Fu, 10-31-2017, 06:10 AM

I'm an 80's kid, grew up watching movies like "Streets of Fire" and "The Lost Boys" and pretty much every Michael Jackson video which embody a certain aesthetic. The colors are bright, often but not necessarily from neon lights, and they reflect off a wet surface and contrast against a black sky.
Don't take that too literally. Bright "neon" colors against black or dark darkness. It could be jewelry on velvet (sadly I don't have that shot) or something like the examples below. If my little Optio can nail these colors, imagine what your beast can do. Please keep the processing subtle if you use any at all.

Contest ends on November 8th, 6pm Korea time so I can judge and post. I'll be watching the Likes in case I can't decide.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture (and only one picture) in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for at least 7 days, plus an additional day, if required, for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

(excuse the touch-up on the last photo--the monitor on my home computer is a bit more contrasty than the one at work.)

Tokyo Market

Hello,

I expect you will get more dramatic than this. However, it was my last night in Tokyo and I wanted to go out and shoot neon signs and was going around places like Akihabara taking pictures of the huge glowing billboards, but this at a small market stall caught my eye and seemed to sum up Tokyo at night and so I took a picture. The colours please me!

Not sure if this qualifies but thought I would put it up anyway. I won't be around for the next couple of weeks but I like to enter a photo even though I can't host.

Hope this one qualifies. It was during a ice sculpture festival. It was really dark so the colors are reasonably extreme.

Awesome shots so far. slowpez--what is it? And Vaskebjorn--totally qualifies, and a nice variation on the theme. Mark and geomez--yes.

Waiting impatiently to see what others will post.

We must be about the same age. I was in the class of '89.

Anyway, here's something much newer and instead of neon it's LED powered. This is a couple of young ladies with glowing hula hoops at an EDM concert last year.

Little Red Riding Hood

I was about to post this photo on a thread I created, Cyberpunk
but I saw this thread and think that it might be more interesting to post here because so far nobody participate in the cyberpunk thread... yet!

About the image:
K3 + DA21 my to-go combo for street day or night. If I could only pick a prime for a trip, it is going to be this lens.
it was taken in Akihabara last Saturday and it was a night before typhoon hit Tokyo. Already a lot of rain but not much wind (yet). Pentax seriously neeeeed to make a new set of limited WR prime.

I have a few more image with passing train on the overpass bridge above, but the little red riding hood was not in the frame.

Image of the ビックカメラ (Bic Camera) sign that I took in Nagoya, Japan. Shot it from my hotel window with my K-50 & the DA-L 50-200mm.

50mm / ƒ/6.3 / 1/80s / ISO 3200

The A/C units, train station below, buildings in the back, & some rain drops on my window make it look like it came out of some Japanese anime. I have more, but I like this one a lot. (^o^ ) <3
