406 - Fire
Posted By: eva, 11-18-2017, 01:57 PM

Fire mesmerizes us. The dancing pattern of the flames, the comforting source of light in the darkness and the way the light from the flames flickers.
Fire is a fun subject for photography, offering a wide variety of creative possibilities.

Closing for the contest is midnight Saturday, November 25 (MST).

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture (and only one picture) in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for at least 7 days, plus an additional day, if required, for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

K10D. The Australian flora and fauna has been shaped by fire. In the Top End, fires rage during the Dry Season, then there is the Wet and everything is green and growing.

I went over all my photos discovering i had none with fire.
The closest one is this modern art installation photo i took some time ago and is an interpratation of fire.
I hope it qualifies.

Flames, steam, and smoke at a refinery in a steady wind make interesting patterns. K-30 and DA18-135, 30 second exposure at F10.

UPDATE:

Eva will be offline for a while so I will be judging this challenge at her request. This comes in handy as I don't have so many fire photos anyway

I will be away during the next weekend so closing date will be Sunday midnight, November 26.

These are large round bales of straw that have been lit on fire because it isn't worthwhile to store them over winter. One of the things that caught my eye was the shape of the left side of the bale in the foreground. Like seeing outlines of animals in clouds, I saw a profile view of a head, which got me thinking of the annual Burning Man gathering in the Nevada desert. I titled this picture Burning Straw, Man (lame pun, I know).

We were on a (for me) long walk, tired and cold... Just imagine our happiness to find a place to warm up!

This doesn't hold a candle to Keith's (forgive the pun) in terms of technique or travel, but here it is anyway.
From the Muju Firefly and Fireworks Festival, the same night that gave me the Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear challenge shot. Nearly the only one that came out in something like focus, whether that's my equipment or skill I don't know, but I'm betting a combination of the two. Still, as fantastically crowded as it was that night, I'm glad I got this.

These two people were lighting the jute-like fireworks from this little portable campfire. The fireworks hung from a wire strung across the river from pulleys and they fed them out bit by bit as they were lit. I have lots of shots of falling cinders, but I thought the people behind them were more interesting.

A veldt Fire, a common occurrence here in Spring and summer. This one in suburban Johannesburg, an empty plot of land between buildings
