Roots. My photo is a literal interpretation but "roots" can mean many things. I have also gone monochrome here, which is unusual for me but seemed to fit. (I looked at past challenges and this does not seem to have been done recently.)

Closing for the contest is midnight Saturday, 9 December (MST). (Site administrators please fix if I have got anything wrong!)

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture (and only one picture) in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for at least 7 days, plus an additional day, if required, for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

We can ask Rense if he feels like judging, if not we can do a "most votes".

That was exactly what I was thinking. If someone could PM Rense that would be great. I am stuck with limited internet at the moment as I am in North Africa and internet is prepaid here

Unfortunately Rense is unable to help us being very busy with other stuff. Any other ideas ?

Lets do a most votes then. All participants can vote but not your own. My vote goes to SpecialK. I like the combination between nature, city and history.

Could also base the winner on the number of "likes" the photos have received. Several people have already "voted" that way.

Also a good idea. Somehow i can not see the likes so you would have to announce the winner
