Thanks for hosting again this week. Can I wish you all the best for the upcoming holiday.....

The weather seems to have finally realised that it's winter here, but I rather like the white stuff.

Some recent shots here, but the last one was taken over 13 years ago on my original Pentax DSLR (an *istD). I have completely re-vamped it to try and improve the final image.

I’ve a mix this week. The fruit on this red necked palm are usually hidden in the shadow of the canopy, so it was good to be up early enough one morning to catch them in the light of the rising sun.

I was hoping for a backlit highlight in the photo of my friend as he was comfortably perched on the window sill, but it was quite over-exposed and he decided to get up and jump down as I took the shot anyway. Coming back to the shot I decided I quite like the way this overexposure captures a dose of his essential “cattiness”.

I used the Promura 200 mm at about f8 for the palms, and a Cosina 50mm f2 @ f2 for this one.

The butterflies were taken with a Tokunon 135mm f3.3 preset on a 20mm ext tube. It’s a sharp little lens but the bokeh seems to go straight from pleasantly rounded highlights to downright disturbed, bypassing nervous altogether as you stop down if you aren't careful. I think I was on about f8 or 11 for these.

I’ve also included the small damselfly for the mixed colour on its body and seemingly masked face - It was taken with the Super-Multi-Coated Macro-Takumar 50mm.

It's been quite a while since I posted any shots here and actually, quite a while since I have done any shooting at all. This Saturday, I attended the Wreaths Across America celebration at Saratoga National Cemetery. Volunteers place Christmas Wreaths on all the graves of deceased veterans. It was a big turnout, despite the cold and wind. Here's a few of my shots.

This last shot is being shared all over Facebook. I was on my way back to my car, hands and fingers frozen, when I saw this father and daughter and fired off a quick shot. I really didn't know if I got the shot until I got home. The song "Teach Your Children" ran through my head as I shot this.
