"Let There Be Ice"--Challenge #410.
Posted By: charliezap, 12-27-2017, 01:50 PM

Ok boys and girls--Let's have some fun with this one. Here in the "States" cold and ice is covering a major part of the Nation but ice can be anywhere in any clime. Here are a few examples to get your brain cooking--just show me some "ice"--charliezap

The Challenge will close at midnight Wednesday January 3rd. Go to it and have a Happy New Year.--Charliezap.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here are some examples to jump start your thinking.--charliezap

I was very much in doubt about the photo to post. I had a nice one of a snowman, but the challange said “let there be ice”. To stay as close to the challange as possible I choose this one from a plant covered in ice crystals due to a very cold morning.

"Small Worlds of Ice And Snow" was captured as part of my experiment with frozen soap bubbles on my house's deck. The image was captured with SMC Pentax-M Macro 1:4/100mm on Pentax K-S2 and processed in Silver Efex Pro 2 from the Nik Collection.

Thanks very much, Charliezap, for hosting this challenge.

Warmest wishes to all for a happy and safe celebration of the new year and for all of 2018.

Taken as part of a all day, ice photography exploration/ journey. Very cool blues and grays on that day - no pun intended! Lake Abraham, Alberta Canada. Hand-held Pentax K5II with Sigma 10-20mm lens and aperture 1/125th at f11.

I was able to get a snowflake structure this morning.
Camera K3II, Lens smc Macro-Takumar f/4
ISO 400, Shutter speed 1/50, On a monopod.
Processed in LR 6.0. I had a lighter color version but was inspired by the previous high contrast b/w posts and decided to explore that with this shot.
I like the high contrast best.

We seldom get snow here in Johannesburg despite that we are at such a high altitude. Frost (and occasionally ice on the roads) we get regularly in winter, and I love getting some macro shots of the icicles.
