Posted By: rjbrett, 01-11-2018, 02:54 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week (POTW) for the period 4 - 17 January 2018. I’m pleased to be again hosting this wonderful and diverse thread, and all are invited to contribute.
POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away

feel free to start immediately, if not sooner

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

Blue Faced Honeyeaters are seasonal migrants here, and their arrival often coincides with the flowering of the tree down by the side of the house (Melicope elleryana). The male has the showy blue cheeks, the female and juvenile have the same olive green seen on their wings, back and tail. I took these photos using a Takumar Bayonet 135mm f2.8 @ f5.6 with a Kenko KAX 2x teleconverter. These pics have had minimal processing.

Some of the older lenses I’ve collected give colors that can range from vivid to lurid, especially wide open. The Marigold close up was taken with a Promura preset 35mm f3.5 at about f4 or f4.5 with a 20mm extension tube and CPl (to minimize reflections of the water droplets). While the distortion in the photo was planned wide open it just went wild. I actually desaturated this image to get more natural color. Even desaturation didn’t help with the marigold behind the dandelion, so I left it much as it was taken, just sharpening a bit for downsizing. It was taken with a Tokunon preset 135mm f3.2 at about f5.6 and an 11mm extension tube.

The gardenia bloom was opening just after a heavy shower, and as it looked so white and crisp against the retaining wall and foliage behind it I thought I’d try it as a black and white. It was taken using an Industar 61 50mm f2.8 (another preset) at about f8 or 11, and processed in the black and white module of Topaz studio.

Thanks for hosting again rjbrett, Oooh I like that blue faced honeyeater in the first pic. Beautiful bird!
A contribution from me.
Lucky to have got this Jumping Spider with the 50-200mm Kit lens and the Raynox 150.

I always stop if I see Street Art I have not seen before, and if I don't have the camera with me, will make a mental note to go back to capture it.

Some Architecture from my participation in the Daily In Challenge

More with the Raynox and kit lens

Some ruins at the Kliprivier (Stone River) Nature Reserve.

And Zoo Lake just about has a stunning sunset daily.

Thanks for hosting again, rjbrett.

This morning was among the busiest periods I can recall for our backyard bird feeders. Images were captured through glass of a sliding door with handheld Pentax K-S2 and smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm.

Quick stitch with hugin, thought I'd leave those cars on the left show twice, but I may remove them in a future version.

Nice pics all. The spider is a nice catch Noel - they move so quickly and erratically that a well focused and composed facial shot with highlights in the eyes is remarkable. I'm wondering what spring will bring to your very convenient hide there SMF, if these are the shots you are getting in what looks pretty ordinary winter light. Nice panorama aaacb, I'm impressed by the overall wintery tone, and the consistency of color, detail, and light across the frame. My untutored eye wouldn't have noticed the extra cars if you hadn't mentioned them but they do, thinking about it, give a good sense of scale to the scene.
