Welcome to Picture of the Week (POTW) for the period 12 - 31 January 2018. I’m pleased to have volunteered for the first time to host this wonderful and diverse thread, and all are invited to contribute.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

I was at the Australian National Road Championships around Mt Buninyong in Ballarat, Victoria the other weekend, with the K-1, Tamron 70-200mm f2.8, DFA 28-105mm and Sigma 12-24mm DG. You always hope that one of the guys out front can hold out against the bunch approaching from behind (their aerodynamic efficiency can make up a kilometre's lead in one minute) and it so it happened on this day.

That’s a nice sporting start clackers, and those snow shots are like a breeze of fresh cool air here after another 34 degree day. I really like the color in the first, and yeah, the duck.

I’ve been out exercising my small clutch of takumars with more shots of street trees – the first 2 photos of Brazilian Fern Trees were taken with the Super Takumar 28mm f3.5. They often put on a good show this time of year and are good for shade.The dragonfly and butterfly were both taken using the Takumar Bayonet 135 f2.8 on a KAX 2x teleconverter. The Petunia opening the Industar 61 50mm f2.8 with an 11mm extension tube.

The last photo uses a feature of Topaz studio called quad tones, essentially a tool for digitally hand coloring photos. Couldn’t help myself when I found it, and used it here on the cropped color photo I’d taken with a Cosina 20mm f3.5 for just this purpose, with a little pull back on the opacity.

Thanks for hosting Clackers- I love you cycling shots. On the bucket list photographically speaking, but I am simply too busy. We have a few races in Johannesburg but they happen usually on a Sunday, and I am on duty on that day. Oh, and I'm not speaking to Eva- all these snow pics making me green with envy. Agree with Clackers though, No 6 is wonderful, beautifully framed. Rjbrett- Keep exercising. Beautiful shots, especially like the Butterfly.

Seasons come and go!


Experiments with the tripod and 6 sec exposure. Focus, press the shutter, count 2 seconds and then swivel the tripod in half moon movement. You never know what you may get.

And this is a water drop, shot with a screw-on magnifying glass, Raynox 150 on the 50-200mm Kit lens, into the sun - Interesting?
