Posted By: rjbrett, 02-08-2018, 02:29 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week (POTW) for the period 1 to 15 February 2018. I’m pleased to be hosting this wonderful and diverse thread once again, and all are invited to contribute.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away

feel free to start immediately, if not sooner

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

Noticing nice light early in the mornings I went a little down the road to try and capture it using a Cosina 20mm f3.5. The Cosina does have A contacts, so for once I have a record of the apertures used – the horizontal was 1/100th at f6.3 and the vertical 1/100th at f5, ISO 200. For some reason I had the camera set to Tv mode – I think I was worried about the speed the clouds were moving. I hadn’t had much coffee at that stage… I did catch the color in the clouds but, apart from using more appropriate settings, I’m wondering if I might try learning how to merge multiple exposures next time I do this - any other tips are more than welcome!. I can’t help thinking these could have been better. I also went back in the evening and took a photo back in the other direction, towards the east, as the sun set. The settings for this one were 1/40th at f11 at ISO 100.

The Marigold was another quick test shot of the Vivitar 100mm AF f3.5 at f8 at 1/80th and ISO 1600 – another lens with an a setting – and the butterfly a Cosina 135mm f3.5 at f5.6 and 1/500th on ISO 800 with a KAX 2x teleconverter.

The dandelion buds were taken using the Industar 61 50mm f2.8 with 50mm worth of extension tubes. At f16 and .3 of a second (on a tripod of course). This amount of extension and the small aperture really showed up the dirt and dust on the sensor – I’m still cleaning it off, and have already been working at it for some time.

It's Carnival time.Some highlights.K-5 lens 50-135 F2.8.
The Dragon carnival traditionally held in Ljubljana consists of a large Shrovetide carnival parade through the city's streets and a programme of entertainment held in the centrally located Kongresni trg square.
The carnival parade includes, among others, a number of typical Slovenian carnival figures rooted in pagan tradition, such as 'kurent', 'laufar', 'morostar' and several others and groups of traditional, ethnographically based carnival figures, children's carnival groups, and other organized groups of carnival figures.
Slovenian carnival figures are very colourful and Slovenian Shrovetide traditions, reflecting the distinctive local features of the rural environments of the past, unique in many ways.
The country's best known carnival figures are 'kurent', originating from the town of Ptuj, 'laufar' from the village of Cerkno, and 'škoromat' from the village of Hrušica. In Ljubljana's surrounding area the best known carnival figures are 'mačkara' and 'petelin' from the village of Dobrepolje. It was funny morning and kids enyoed it very much.

Nice to see so many people taking part in promoting the local traditions Eva, and they do look interesting. I looked this up (thanks Wikipedia & Visit Ljubljana – guide to Ljubljana and Central Slovenia) and it seems big there. Are those the Kurents in the woollen coats in the background in the second pic? – and the gent in the third is impressively done up! The kids (and their parents) all seem to be having so much fun.

Nice pics Dave – thanks for posting. Can I ask what the shutter speed is in the second? - I’m looking at the water.

Oh boy, I seem to be late for everything this week. Was just about to post here, but I'll contribute to the new thread instead. My apologies. I had intended to contribute this week as usual.

Sorry, I've only just seen this..

Shutter was 1/15sec. No filter was used, the water was running pretty fast..

Cheers
