Picture of the Week (POTW) # 496 - Covering period 7 to 21 March 2018 - PentaxForums.com

My first photo this week comes from a small park managed by the Logan City Council known as Lancaster Park. This park is popular for weddings because it includes a rose garden and a gazebo. Having seen these as Ive driven past many times I stopped to see if I could get some photos. The gazebo, Flame Tree Seed pods, Rose,, and Gazania were all taken with the Pentax A 35 70mm f4 zoom, at f8 and I think f5.6 for the rose and Gazania. I had to go back a second time for the rose. The Flame tree is one of the few deciduous Australian native trees, dropping its leaves in the dry season, and sporting profuse loads of bright red flowers around spring before regrowing its leaves. I missed this show last spring, but also find these little boat shaped seed pods interesting. The Gazania has had more than a little processing you might notice some ghosting around the edge of the petals, but I do like the soft glow Ive got on their highlights. One day Ill learn how to have my cake and eat it too

The Plumbago was taken using a Promura C. P. Hilux 20mm f2.8 lens at about f4 I was interested to see just how close it would focus and what sort of bokeh Id get.

My last photo here is of a moth known as a Grass Caterpillar moth, a pyralid moth according to the Brisbane Insects website. These are apparently common in Brisbane lawns, and are almost swarming as I walk through the longer grass out the front. Not the most showy of our residents, but I was happy to catch this one backlit by the midday sun just reaching over the eaves. Usually they are moving very quickly and rest well embedded in that long grass.

Some dried flowers, followed by photos on tri-x that I scanned and developed myself. The last one shows some uneven developing, I think?

Thanks for hosting again rjbrett. Its pouring with rain around here, and not much chance to get anywhere today, certainly not my daily 9km exercise walk. So while I'm stuck at home, may as well contribute. These from my visit to Rietvlei Nature Reserve yesterday, as it was a public holiday here (Human Rights Day). Lovely time I had there.

Btw, Love that butterfly shot rjbrett, lovely backlighting. Aaacb, something special about that 3rd photo -beautiful documentary shot!

Children's playground

It was taken in Warszawa, in the Praga district whitch is known of high crime level. There is no children playgrounds around except this one which is painted graffitti. The yellow sign on a fence says "Demolition area, keep away"

I must have looked at your picture three times before realising it is exactly what you said it is Nobody, a mural depicting children playing. I kept thinking they don’t look too concerned about the impending demolition….

That is a magnificent creature, your locust, Noel. It made me think of the dinosaurs and the defensive plating they developed in their evolutionary arms race. Well done catching the dragonfly in flight! (I keep trying….)

I think that third photo goes beyond documents to the realms of narrative aaacb. It could be a scene from a particularly good move, and opens up so many questions. Who are these people? Do they know each other? How are they related to the houses in the background? Do they do this every day at this time? ..... it’s intriguing…
