Picture of the Week (POTW) # 500 - Covering period 12 April to 22 April 2018.
Posted By: smf, 04-16-2018, 07:29 AM

Welcome to the milestone 500th edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 12 April to 22 April 2018.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away.

Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Here are the records of recent POTW thread hosts: 390 smf, 391 smf, 392 smf, 393 smf, 394 smf, 395 smf, 396 smf, 397 smf, 398 smf, 399 smf, 400 smf, 401 smf, 402 smf, 403 smf, 404 smf, 405 smf, 406 smf,407 ramseybuckeye, 408 ramseybuckeye, 409 stubyles, 410 stubyles, 411 stubyles, 412-423 SD_Bob, 424-427 dave kitson 428-451 smf 452, 453, 454 StephenHampshire 455 Aslyfox, 456 StepehenHampshire, 457 noelcmn, 458 noelcmn, 459 noelcmn, 460 noelcmn, 461 noelcmn, 462 noelcmn, 463 noelcmn, 464 noelcmn, 465 noelcmn, 466 noelcmn, 467 Aslyfox, 469-470 aaacb 471 Madmathmind, 472 Madmathmind, 473 Eva, 474 rjbrett, 475 Aslyfox, 476 - 485 noelcmn, 486 - 488 rjbrett, 489 clackers, 490 - 498 rjbrett, 499 StephenHampshire

Thanks very much to all hosts and to everyone who contributes images and comments in these threads.

The butterfly images were captured with a Pentax K-S2 and older SMC Pentax Macro 1:4/100 in the indoor Butterflies in Bloom exhibit at Dow Gardens in Midland, Michigan. It was one of the final days of this year’s exhibit — a nice day before weather turned bad.

From the Boston marathon earlier today. I was standing not much before the finish line on the final stretch on Boylston St.

Shot with k-3ii and 55-300 plm, which performed well despite being drenched; my umbrella helped avoid some water, but not that much.

500th show – well that’s something special! Congratulations all. I’ve certainly enjoyed and been inspired by the photos contributed to this thread, and the opportunity to contribute, in the short time I’ve been following it. Thank you SMF for hosting this week!

I had to make an unplanned trip into the city (I’d almost forgotten what it looks like it’s been so long) and thinking I’d test some of my lenses in that environment took some quick snaps while walking to and from the railway station. On opening them on my PC I was pleasantly surprised, and thought them quite presentable.

These were all taken with the Cosina 20mm f3.8, except the first, which was taken with the SMC Pentax A 35-70mm f4. The tower in the shot of St Andrew's church was taken at ground level, and perspective corrected using DXO Viewpoint 2. This was the first time I’d used this software, and I was impressed that it ran so well on my older, and relatively underpowered, PC. My apologies in advance for the repeated portrait orientation taking up so much space on the page!

500th edition of POTW. Congratulations all contributors. As with rjbrett, it has been inspirational. Thanks for hosting smf, and here's a contribution from me. Visited Kloofendal (Lit. hill and valley) Nature reserve yesterday (Mondays are my day off from ministry).

A wasp taken with the Sigma 170-500mm

Dabchick, always a pleasure to see and watch its antics.

After all the unseasonal rain we've had, mushrooms are sprouting everywhere

The theme last week for Daily In Challenge was Clouds

And a visit to Everard Read Art Gallery when it was raining

From the beach over the last few days.

All of these are with a k-30 - The seagull was shot with a Helios 44-2; the beach was with a DA*16-50 at 28mm; the canoe, boardwalk & algae bloom were with an FA43.

A lens so good it even makes algal bloom attractive - interesting comparison across the three lenses nosillec. I get dizzy looking at that stairwell too long Noel, it's so true to life. Nice detail in the leafhoppers face!
