Weekly Challenge #422 - Rural Landscape
Posted By: Hattifnatt, 05-15-2018, 08:29 AM

Welcome to Weekly Challenge #422 - RURAL LANDSCAPE

Thanks to Bruce Clark for a wonderful challenge last week and to all who participated.

Rural landscape photography is in many ways similar to photographing urban landscapes. The difference is rural photography is about capturing the “life” in the countryside. I prefer not to include humans in my rural landscapes. Some will disagree and claim it is photographing people in their rural environment that is the way to go. For me, rural landscape photography is to include elements of human influence in the photos, not the people themselves (although this is not a specific request for this challenge, if you can't include some human influence even a simple tree will do).

For those without access to countryside, maybe abandoned houses, old barns, old machinery, old bridges, will do. Or maybe even a picture from some park, as long as the cityscape is concealed.

When judging this challenge I will pay attention to light and composition, although you are encouraged to move around and find interesting angles.

Below I posted some of my pictures for inspiration.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

The Challenge will run until midnight next Tuesday, May 22, 2018, whichever time zone you are in.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

A favourite topic of mine and so very hard to choose an entry.

When I was a sales rep for agricultural tires, I sometimes visited family farms worth millions, with the latest in precision farming technology. This wasn't one of them.

This is 9 or 10 miles west of Glide, Oregon, from the road that parallels the Umpqua River. I saw it from a distance when traveling down a long straightish portion of the road. The sun had come out though there were the rain clouds in the distance. The sheep were a bonus.

This is a photo of an area a couple of miles from my home. It shows natures battle against human influence an in this case nature is winning. The pathway that used to be there is almost entirely gone.

Tom, you really nailed this one! A beautiful image, for sure. Even though it's somewhat of a minimalist image, the more I look, the more I see.
