Weekly Challenge #428 - Storefronts
Posted By: aaacb, 07-27-2018, 05:28 PM

Welcome to challenge 4*2=8!

The theme is "Storefronts," and I'm looking for photos that include a storefront, or more generally some sort of business (gas station, gardening store, insurance office, vet clinic, etc), that is either the main subject or provides the context for your photo.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week or, in case the winner is unable to run the next chalenge, the second place holder.

This challenge will run until next Friday (August 3rd) at midnight EDST.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

This is the front wall of a antique shop in Maldon, Central Victoria. Maldon is in the middle of an old gold mining precinct, so a lot of old and interesting buildings. Taken with my K10D, can't recall which lens (its not in the Exif data)

This is a great theme! I'm going to go with a local icon that has been in place since 1928:

This is the front of a “mobile” candy store in Port el Kantoaui. The man is fixing it up before the tourist season begins.

Abandoned Pride

I spent a good deal of time roaming around the grounds of this abandoned convenience store that had been left to the whims of nature. There many aspects of the store that I found intriguing, but this shot is my favorite for reasons that I can’t quite articulate.

Not exactly an embarrassment of riches for this theme in my digital photo library, but I'll post this one. I took this picture in 2012, when the store/repair garage had been closed for at least 10 years. What got my attention was the pristine BFGoodrich sign; that logo hasn't been used for at least 30 years, possibly 40 years and I couldn't believe that a rock or some other hard object hadn't damaged the plastic. This building is on the main street of the small town of Bengough; although no one has done any upkeep on the stroefront, someone must be keeping watch over it to keep graffiti and vandalism at bay.

Socorro, New Mexico, right across the street from an (also closed) high school. The tales of joy and teen angst it could tell… not technically a storefront but ....

Death Valley Gas Station

I have a lot of photos of store fronts - one of my favorite subjects so it was hard to choose one. I loved the look of this gas station as you approach Death Valley, California - just about everyone stops here because there are no services for a lot of inhospitable miles after this. The blue skies, the shade, the retro feel. I want to go back.

another Puerto Vallarta morning

No longer a quiet little fishingvillage, or seaport city, this is a hoppin' tourist centre. Colourful, inviting, with traffic movin' every which way. It's not congested, but always something poppin' in, out or by. There's lots to look at, fun little things happening at the edges of the frame; normally I'd edit out. .. but hey! it captures a moment here, and a feeling... and my favourite kind of light! ~gwd
