Weekly Challenge #71: Railway Scenes
Posted By: dave kitson, 09-19-2008, 10:11 AM

With 70 challenges behind us it is getting harder to think of new themes that would be generally available. However, most people must be close to some form of railway infrastructure, so hopefully we will get a good response to this weeks challenge.

Interpret the theme as widely as you like.

Please submit entries until midnight BST on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

Good luck

Dave

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be color or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but if you have to explain it, it probably doesn’t communicate what you are trying for.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.

I'm really light in this regard [of railway photos]. And what I have are quite un-exceptional.
(seriously kool Gooshin... love how the rails are so sharp directly inline with your travel at the bottom of the frame, then all goes haywire in all different ways through the rest of the frame while still remaining recognizable)

As it's mentioned we are given freedom for interpretation in the challenge rules, how 'bout one of my few of my wife (I usually have to sneak taking photos of her), taken while on a rail?

Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal

75th Anniversary Celabration of the Union Terminal in Cincinnati, Ohio. This building is now a museum (Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal), with a children's museum, natural history gallery, and Cincinnati history gallery. A lot of the original art work and interior has been restored, including a hugh mural around the domed entrance.

Took this image this past July after viewing the Bodies exhibit that has been touring the USA.

m80: Anyone that has traveled by rail can relate to this image. Very nice capture.

OK, here's my entry. Too bad there are no railroads (at least nice ones) around where I live, but this is a pic of Pennsylvania Station in Baltimore, Maryland, last March. (shot with my beloved Pentax WPi, w/mini GorillaPod travel companion).

Flinders St Railway Station, Melbourne, Australia. A sudden burst of sunlight, lighting the facade against a dark and threatening sky.

Here's my entry... I posted a few similar shots a little while back, so I took one from a more recent shoot, converted to B&W and did some post processing on it. It's a tunnel entrance near my home.
