Posted By: Vaskebjorn, 09-06-2018, 05:02 AM

Welcome to the 514th edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 29 August to 18 September 2018.

This week I will extend the posting period due to some hospital stuff i have to do next week, that means that I obviousle expect to see a lot of fantastic photos. I liked last weeks hosting a lot seeing all these marvelous photos and I am confident this time there will be beautiful ones to.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away.

Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Here are the records of recent POTW thread hosts: 390 smf, 391 smf, 392 smf, 393 smf, 394 smf, 395 smf, 396 smf, 397 smf, 398 smf, 399 smf, 400 smf, 401 smf, 402 smf, 403 smf, 404 smf, 405 smf, 406 smf,407 ramseybuckeye, 408 ramseybuckeye, 409 stubyles, 410 stubyles, 411 stubyles, 412-423 SD_Bob, 424-427 dave kitson 428-451 smf 452, 453, 454 StephenHampshire 455 Aslyfox, 456 StepehenHampshire, 457 noelcmn, 458 noelcmn, 459 noelcmn, 460 noelcmn, 461 noelcmn, 462 noelcmn, 463 noelcmn, 464 noelcmn, 465 noelcmn, 466 noelcmn, 467 Aslyfox, 469-470 aaacb 471 Madmathmind, 472 Madmathmind, 473 Eva, 474 rjbrett, 475 Aslyfox, 476 - 485 noelcmn, 486 - 488 rjbrett, 489 clackers, 490 - 498 rjbrett, 499 StephenHampshire 500 smf, 501 StephenHampshire, 502 Eva, 503, Eva, 504 Eva, 505 Eva, 506-514 Vaskebjorn

Cheap lens series. All shots except for the lens shot itself were made with a used Tokina SZ-X 35-70 f3.5-f4.8 manual focus lens on a K-3 Pentax.

Nice series UncleVanya,

My favorite is the bottle photo. I like the darkness a lot, although i had to look again to determine what i was actually looking at. That makes it a intriguing photo.

Thanks for hosting again Vaskebjorn, terrific opening shot! And intriguing too! Is that a fountain bursting through some sort of grid? And the same can be said of Uncle's shots. Well worth that price hey! Wish I could get that kind of cheap here down south of the equator.
Another visit to Kloofendal Nature Reserve this week.
The Common Coral trees are blooming

A dragonfly sat still enough for me to approach with the Tamron 70-300mm lens coupled with Raynox 150.

Mountain Reedbuck were a few meters from the path I was walking but they scampered at my approach. These two were caught by surprise as they were busy munching on some shrubs, and then also scampered when I was almost right upon them. Then they stopped and looked back

And just as I was leaving, I came across this Common Duiker.

Tried some Macro stuff- Double Magnifying glass on the 18-55mm lens

And another visit to Florida Lake

Thanks for hosting the POTW. Some really nice fauna & flora images posted above..

I went to Snowdonia for a birthday break with a definite photographic plan. Unfortunately it rained and rained and rained, all my photographing was done within yards of the car....

Thanks Noel for again a nice series of photos. This time my favorite is the fluffy plant macro shot. The plant had a bit of a bad hairday. I tried a couple of times with magnifying filters, but was not able to get one sharp photo. Which kind do you use? As to watery photo I posted, that indeed is a fountain through a metal grid. Actually there are three in a row and the water is colored blue for some reason. Might be an art decision.

Aaacb, also this series is beautiful. I had a hard time deciding which one i like most. At the end I think the eagle (if it is an eagle, i am not sure on that one) as it is not easy getting one of these in flight. The moon photo i included has two buzzerds in it at the closest I could get them with the 300mm.

Hi Dave, I thought you are shooting Pentax. These do not mind a bit of rain though

Although the pictures are not loading properly, I clicked all of them and I have to say they look good. My favorite of the four, because its the most humorous in my opinion, is the one with the light house. In first instance i thought that someone was fishing a big lens there

Hi BAKrueger,

Nice series of birds of prey, are these taken in the wild or in a wildlife/bird park.
Either way they look stunning,

As it stands out from this series, my favorite would be the caterpillar. I love the bright colors on this photo.

After 2 days of rain, found a few subjects with water clinging on them. Taken with a Tamron 28-300 LD or Tamron 70-300 LD Tele-macro.

Yes the bird pics are cheating as I took them at a Audubon society photo shoot
The Caterpillar however was taken at a near by lake on a fishing Holiday with A K-3 and Tamrom 90mm macro a series of 6 photos to allow me sharp focus front to back (my first descent focus stacked image)

Thank you
BA

Hi Tim,
Also a very good series. The bubble photos look a bit “outlandish”. Especially the first ones where the grass leaves are peeking through the bubbles.
