Posted By: Vaskebjorn, 09-25-2018, 11:47 PM

Welcome to the 516th edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 24 September to 30 September 2018.

Yesterday was a day at the zoo, took 776 photos, so will start of with a tiny selection of these. This week I obviously do expect to see a lot of fantastic photos. I liked last weeks hosting a lot seeing all these marvelous photos and I am confident this time there will be beautiful ones to.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away.

Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Thanks for hosting again Vaskebjorn-mmmm... the young elephant it too cute.

Monday was Heritage Day here, a public holiday, and I got a few shots of some attendants at a local supermarket, all dressed up in traditional cultural clothes.

Kloofendal nature Reserve also delivered-again-on the day

I went hiking in northern Minnesota looking for fall colors. As you can see, I was a little early.

Same here, I went to hike in the White Mountains too early, so instead I picked a hike that had a waterfall. Got to try my new polarizer and, while I like it, I need to not overdo it, the last photo I feel would have looked better if the rocks looked a bit more wet.

Beautiful series noelcm, i was having a hard time choosing the one I liked most. At the end I think it is the perished flower. It gives a nice autmny feeling.

SD_Bob, you could have done an emergency color editing . It looks like a good hiking spot to me, you can not see around the corner, so surprises are possible.

Very good series aaacb, it almost seems to me that it is hiking season in the US. I really like the second waterfall photo. I had some difficulty estimating the size of it though. Somehow i get the impression that it is a relatively small fall.

Very beautiful photo henry, the way it is winding in to the distance with the little train at the end adds to its beauty.

Thanks again to Vaskebjorn for hosting and to all for posting such excellent images.

The American white pelican images were captured with a 500mm Tokina mirror lens on a tripod-mounted Pentax K-S2.

The baseball images were captured during a camera club photo shoot at the baseball stadium in Midland, Michigan. The K-S2 was on a monopod and had a Pentax SMC DA 10-17mm 3.5-4.5. The stadium, Dow Diamond, is home to the Great Lakes Loons, a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw was the first former Loon to reach the Majors.

Welcome Huntress,
you are more than welcome to post a lot more of your photos. It is a very good series to start with. My favorite would be the first black and white. It is really mysterious as i still have no idea what it is. Looks like dried out soil, but i am not sure.

Again a very beautiful series smf. I really like the pelicans i got a couple of them in my zoo visit with my 300mm and the 50-135. Way easier then in the wild. Also the fact you used a mirror lens is something i like. I have one and i know its difficult to get a good photo with them.

Very good shot Racer X 69. It shows the fragility of this tree, although they are reasonably strong in practice. I also like the colorscheme of the photo. The purplish blue on the background ats to the photo. And you did not have to travel far showing that beauty is always within reach.

Thank you for the comments.

The purplish blue color is the result of the fading daylight and a shadow behind the seedling.

Thanks! Indeed, the second waterfall was small, the black rock in the center is about 1m tall. The first one wasn't much taller either.
