# 517 - Covering 01 October to 07 October 2018
Posted By: Vaskebjorn, 10-02-2018, 07:41 AM

Welcome to the 517th edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 01 October to 07 October 2018.

This week i was not fortunate enough to get some photos, so you have to settle with some additional zoo photos, nevertheless I obviously do expect to see a lot of fantastic photos this week. I liked last weeks hosting a lot seeing all these marvelous photos and I am confident this time there will be beautiful ones to.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away.

Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Here are the records of recent POTW thread hosts: 390 smf, 391 smf, 392 smf, 393 smf, 394 smf, 395 smf, 396 smf, 397 smf, 398 smf, 399 smf, 400 smf, 401 smf, 402 smf, 403 smf, 404 smf, 405 smf, 406 smf,407 ramseybuckeye, 408 ramseybuckeye, 409 stubyles, 410 stubyles, 411 stubyles, 412-423 SD_Bob, 424-427 dave kitson 428-451 smf 452, 453, 454 StephenHampshire 455 Aslyfox, 456 StepehenHampshire, 457 noelcmn, 458 noelcmn, 459 noelcmn, 460 noelcmn, 461 noelcmn, 462 noelcmn, 463 noelcmn, 464 noelcmn, 465 noelcmn, 466 noelcmn, 467 Aslyfox, 469-470 aaacb 471 Madmathmind, 472 Madmathmind, 473 Eva, 474 rjbrett, 475 Aslyfox, 476 - 485 noelcmn, 486 - 488 rjbrett, 489 clackers, 490 - 498 rjbrett, 499 StephenHampshire 500 smf, 501 StephenHampshire, 502 Eva, 503, Eva, 504 Eva, 505 Eva, 506-517 Vaskebjorn

It seems like POTW is in hibernation or even in a cryogenic sleep. No one out there taking pictures worth sharing ?

Vaskebjorn, thanks for hosting again and for starting the thread with the very pleasing images.

This Cooper's hawk was in our back yard in Michigan for at least half an hour. Part of that time it bathed in the puddle.

I captured many, many images through the glass of a sliding door with a 500mm f/8 Tokina mirror lens on my Pentax K-S2.

Best wishes to all.

My apologies Vaskebjorn, I'm slack this week. Thanks for hosting-again. That monkey shot is priceless! Wimbledon Champion .
A contribution from me. If you have not heard, I met with WPRESTO last week Friday evening, for dinner and we had a wonderful wonderful time, just chatting and getting to know one another. Splendid fellow he is! As is his charming wife, and a boon to my psyche to be in their company, they are so suited to each other! And then he goes and floors me with a gift-A bottle of Maple syrup and a brand spanking new 10-20mm Sigma lens. Good grief! I was floored! All I could manage was No, no no, no..." I am too blessed! In any event, it got a spin of course

And a Suburb in Johannesburg had a special project for Street Art a few years ago, and I discovered many of them. Here's two I particularly like

And we've had some serious protests around where I live, mostly against poor service delivery and the police's inability to address the high crime rate. It turned ugly , and hundreds of police and metro police were deployed to the area. Just down the road from me-about 200meters.

Some cuties to bring relief to all this stress

And another practice session for BIF at Florida Lake

Great that you “got” the hawk. They tend not to come to close. That you used a mirror lens add to the complexity. These are always reasonably soft, at least mine is. I would have guessed you used one judging the bokeh.

I like your series a lot noelcmn. I really like the art on the walls, it gives “ life” to an otherwise boring object. But just because it’s Sunday my favorite is the little goose, the sun striking through it’s baby fluff makes it an exceptional photo. I did not know you met WPRESTO, but reading your description it was as good as it gets

That's a good long series of the street art on you flickr page Noel - good coverage! - and the bif is particularly good as well. I've got a late entry - a pair of Eastern Water Dragons in a territorial dispute. These pictures were taken on a walk through the Roma St Parklands with my K5 & SMC DA 55-300mm in near the city in April, but not processed until today;

One of photos I've taken the past week or so, I'll upload more as I process them, in this weekly challenge or elsewhere.
This particular one is from a longer hike, taken at the end. Behind me where I was standing were the restrooms at the end of the trail, not the most scenic spot but that birch stood out for me.
