Caption Contest October 28 to Nov 4
Posted By: gump, 10-28-2018, 02:26 AM

Hello All:

New contest is now open and runs until Midnight Nov 4 EDT-USA

(I was asked to post a new contest as there was no closure on the previous one. I trust the reason for this did not involve a serious problem for noelcmn, )

Rules:

Any forum member may invent and post a caption for the photo, posting the caption as a reply in this thread.

All readers of the thread, including those posting captions, are encouraged to vote for any and all of the captions they appreciate by "LIKEing" them using the forum's LIKE feature.

At the end of the contest period, the host will count the votes and report who won. In case of a tie the host gets to break the tie, but will not otherwise submit a caption or vote.

The winner will be notified ASAP by the current host by PM and a post in the thread. The new host should post a link to the new contest thread at the end of the caption contest round just finished.

Submissions should be text (no video or audio files) — caption, limerick, motivational, poem or prose — whatever inspires you to describe the photo or catch attention. Submit by replying to the thread. Contestants may submit more than one entry but it must be in a separate post.

Important:

Even if you do not submit an entry, please “like” any posts you feel deserve it as this is how the winner is chosen. And if you DO submit an entry, please also find an entry that you like from among your competitors' efforts and "like" that one as well. Enter often, vote more often. and most important: Have fun !

If the image is too big for you, edit your account "Settings and Options" for a smaller display size.

Can you talk CROW? These have to be the most arrogant of birds. The fellow seems no exception. Yet, they are said to be one of the most intelligent of birds and I have been told that they are messengers although i do not know from who (whom?). So, what is he saying?

If I were a Raven, then I would be Odin's Messenger and sing:

If I were a Raven, daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dum
All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum

If I were a Raven

[ my apologies to Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock and " Fiddler on the Roof " ]

ALERT! This contest ends tomorrow Sunday or is it Monday(?) at MIDNIGHT (EDT or 5 am Zulu or whatever,.truth in advertising I will be asleep so you are on your honor/honour). In the USA, right or wrong, this is before the time change, so it is not an excuse or perhaps it is. Please vote/like and get your friends to vote, I do not want to have to do a tie-breaker and be hated forever. Of course, entries are still allowed and I suppose I can extend the voting time to accommodate them but sometime on Monday or maybe Tuesday the winner will be announced. I really mean that!

I have OFFICIALLY declared STEMKED the winner based on the number of "likes." Thanks to all for all the entries which were all good, I really mean it. I was introduced to modern music with an interesting video before it was removed. I love song parodies so "Fiddler" was most entertaining. "Wait for me. . . " reminded me of "Hey, Wild Bill, wait for me." You would have to be raised on 1950s american TV to understand. The others had connections for me also. So I am looking forward to being challenged in the next contest.

congrats to the winner

I liked his entry because it plays on one of the weird names given to groups of animals

I've been reading a lot of historical fiction based on the groups we call Vikings so when the issue of messaging was raised the idea of a Raven came to mind

One of forum member played "Polizei" on me reminding that replying with video or photo is against the contest rules. So I removed the link. You still can easily find it on YouTube. But is it really modern? It is form nineties.
And if you for lyrics, here are translation:

I understood why it was removed.

I am part of the "if it is too loud you are too old crowd." I was told that on another site when I had more than enough of the "F" word being used in every other sentence. Let me say it was modern enough for me and I thought whoever wrote one, two, buckle my shoe, ought to sue for plagiarism. Alas, I stopped developing in the folk era of the 60s when lyrics on occasion made sense. Anyway, thanks for the house cleaning.
