Weekly Challenge #441 - Holidays
Posted By: atupdate, 11-27-2018, 08:22 AM

The challenge this week is Holidays. Since my honey do list now includes putting up the decorations for Christmas, it made me wonder what images you have that highlights a holiday. Please do not limit your entries to Christmas images, as all holidays are welcome.

The challenge will close at Midnight on Tuesday the 4th of December 2018 EST or when I wake up Wednesday morning.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to select and be the judge for the next week's challenge.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used as well as P/S cameras.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Slow start to what I thought would be a popular topic.

Holidays are very special for us this year.

I didn't think that the holidays were going to be cheerful this year. We were in Florida in May this year and my wife was rushed to the hospital with a mitral heart valve infection.Very serious. She needed immediate open heart surgery to replace the valve at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte Fl. She was out of it for many weeks and when she was stable enough I hired a medvac jet to fly her home to Boston's Ma. General Hospital so she would have the best treatment available. After several months in the hospital and later at rehab she came home in August. She gets around great with a cane and walker but she will soon not be dependent on them to ambulate. Better days are coming. I don't need much from Santa this year. I already have my gift.Happy holidays to all.--charliezap

Well, it's the Fifth of July at Mt Rushmore, though I was there the evening before as well.

Some anti-viruses (including my ESET at work) block SlickPic, so here is the link:

Holiday meal, Christmas 2013. This is a good example of what can go wrong when you rely on your camera to choose the right settings and you are having trouble getting your remote shutter to do its thing. For some reason, which I wasn't able to determine, my flash didn't fire for this shot, but the four shots where the flash did fire turned out even worse.

Clifton Mill, this is kind of strange using this photo but it is my favorite of my holiday photos. Tim, we sometimes frequent the same places.
K-50 & HD DA 15, 2 sec exposure.

Here are some of the young woman of our youth group, attending a conference on the Kwazulu-Natal South coast. For many it was the first time they got to the beach, and despite it being mid winter, they set out to enjoy the experience. Not that winter means much for Kwazulu-Natal, the climate is warm, even in winter.

A little bit different from some of the very gaudy displays in my neighbourhood. Santa is looking a little deflated already.
