Picture of the Week # 526- Covering period 26 November 2018 - 9 December 2018
Posted By: noelcmn, 12-03-2018, 12:18 AM

Welcome to the 526th edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 26 November to 09 December 2018.

Thanks to Vaskebjorn for hosting POTW for many, many weeks. I hope to continue his work with this weeks edition.

POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away.

Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Here are the records of recent POTW thread hosts: 390-406 smf, 407-408ramseybuckeye, 409-411 stubyles, 412-423 SD_Bob, 424-427 dave kitson 428-451 smf 452, 453, 454 StephenHampshire 455 Aslyfox, 456 StepehenHampshire, 457-466 noelcmn, 467 Aslyfox, 469-470 aaacb 471 Madmathmind, 472 Madmathmind, 473 Eva, 474 rjbrett, 475 Aslyfox, 476 - 485 noelcmn, 486 - 488 rjbrett, 489 clackers, 490 - 498 rjbrett, 499 StephenHampshire 500 smf, 501 StephenHampshire, 502-505 Eva, 506-525 Vaskebjorn

Noel,
Thanks for taking over the challenge. Much appreciated. I always find it a lot of fun, but i am running a bit low on time the coming weeks.
I like your series with which you started, but especially the third one . A very healthy looking person .

The photos in my little series are the only ones worthwhile i got this week.

From a hike on Saturday. My kit was k3ii + da 21 + 55-300 plm

This one is stitched from multiple shots with the 21

Letterbox crop on this one

Somehow I like the blown highlights in the clouds, but it wasn't intentional, and I forgot to check exposure

A closeup of the ice hanging on everything around and above the tree line

And a nice sunset view on the way down, after the fog that was on the way up had cleared. It's from the same location as the first photo in this post.

Wow, suddenly I want to go hiking in the snow!

Yesterday I went on a guided walk of some WWII-era fortifications on Kowloon (the so-called "Gin Drinkers' Line"). A tunnel network, which allowed movement between machine-gun nests and observation posts, is still in quite good condition. The site is located near the Shing Mun Reservoir, which is also home to a fairly large number of rhesus macaques, who were evidently introduced 100 years ago to control strychnos plants which are poisonous to humans and livestock but not to monkeys. The before-and-after photos - (1) Oh look, here comes a cute monkey. (2) Hey! That little bastard stole my food! (the woman in purple). The monkey broke into a sprint, climbed up the woman's body, swiped her snack and took off (note the bag and food on the ground next to her).

The tunnels were named (by their British builders) after streets and locations in London and are geographically significant (this view would be as if you were at Piccadilly Circus - if you take Shaftesbury Ave you'll intersect another tunnel called Charing Cross) and thus easy for soldiers from London (the Middlesex Regiment) to navigate.

Great shots Nosliwmit, love the stories to them. Monkeys are so adept at stealing, no different here in SA, and your food must be guarded at all times. No 4 is superb!

A few more hours before we get onto the next POTW.

I started, and will hopefully maintain, a "This Week in Photos" page for my family/friends and I'll extend the link here since we Pentaxians are a rare breed.
