Weekly Photo Challenge #442 -- My Favorite Image From 2018
Posted By: djb47, 12-05-2018, 11:50 AM

The challenge this week is to post your favorite photo taken during this past year. The photo can be of any subject but it must have been taken during 2018. The challenge will close at Midnight on Tuesday the 11th of December 2018 EST. Winners to be declared early on Wednesday.

The fine print:

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to select and be the judge for the next week's challenge.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used as well as P/S cameras.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

My favorite image from this year:

What a wonderful theme. You have caught me out. I have been very inactive this year and had to go back to January to find anything of interest. I must do better next year.

Moi aussi, mais je ne peux même pas imaginer un beau coucher de soleil comme le tien. Out of 842 photos I took this year, I'll pick one of my mother-in-law, the card shark; playing against my sister-in-law, niece and niece's boyfriend while they were at our house for Canadian Thanksgiving.

This one's hard. I think this one though was the one that stood out in how surprising and uncommon it was for me to encounter such a situation. This was just on my way home after work.

This one was not easy. I have a lot of photos and i wanted to post one that was not posted before. So i chose this little elephant that was having a lot of fun. It was even laughing as it seems.

West Virginia Farmhouse Kitchen

Probably hasn't changed in the last sixty to eighty years, except to be dusted occasionally. Time estimate based on the fact that the little "troll" figure peeking out from behind the teapot dates from the early 1960's, and that's the newest object on the shelf. You may notice the ubiquitous "Betty Crocker Cookbook" with its iconic red and white gingham style cover on the shelf below. The framed advertisement on the wall promotes a Christmas Day Ohio River steamboat cruise from the late 1800's ("good order assured").

The fury of nature.

This was winter storm Riley just North of Boston Ma. This is a favorite spot to capture the waves during a storm.--charliezap

We don't see foxes very often so this early morning roadside encounter with three of them was a real treat. I think this one was the youngster.

A hard choice, but probably my favorite. Maybe because the place is so beautiful, (I have been there twice, once in May and once in October) To go to this place you need a apply for a permit, if approved they send you the permit, a map to find it, and a permit to park along a state highway. I drove about three hours to get there before the sunrise so there would be no shadows. KP and HD DA 15., F6.3, 30 sec, ISO 100

Looking back it seems 2018 was not such a great year for photography, there are not so many pictures that I'm really happy with. I mostly stayed at home instead of trips so I've taken more street and people pictures rather than landscapes... so I guess I'll pick one of those.

It's really hard to pick one but I'll go with this one from Sumatra.
