Posted By: aaacb, 04-01-2019, 04:15 PM

Welcome to the 543rd edition of Picture of the Week (POTW), covering 24 March - 7 April 2019. Let's see what you have been shooting these past two weeks. POTW is a great spot to show off six or fewer shots you take or are editing within the thread's date range. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

To post your great photos, just hit reply and attach away. Feel free to start immediately.

Please:

• consider including in your post any special circumstances or tips on technique or equipment which might be interesting to others.

• identify your camera and lens if that information is easily available to you.

And please invite other Pentaxians to join us.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix
2) Six or fewer images per person per thread to prevent thread bloat
3) Any Pentax, Ricoh or Samsung camera, film or digital

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM), but if you are interested and willing to host POTW, please send me a PM, before I contact others.

If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one. If the thread doesn't start, please contact the host, via PM. Here are the records of recent POTW thread hosts: 390-406 smf, 407-408ramseybuckeye, 409-411 stubyles, 412-423 SD_Bob, 424-427 dave kitson 428-451 smf 452, 453, 454 StephenHampshire 455 Aslyfox, 456 StepehenHampshire, 457-466 noelcmn, 467 Aslyfox, 469-470 aaacb 471 Madmathmind, 472 Madmathmind, 473 Eva, 474 rjbrett, 475 Aslyfox, 476 - 485 noelcmn, 486 - 488 rjbrett, 489 clackers, 490 - 498 rjbrett, 499 StephenHampshire 500 smf, 501 StephenHampshire, 502-505 Eva, 506-525 Vaskebjorn, 526-538 noelcmn, 539-542 aaacb

I'm sure I don't need a GR...

Here's some photos from my weekend. The usual "wandering around Hong Kong" kind of stuff. I usually "attach" photos but I'm trying the Flickr link thing. Hope it works!

Golf Course Musings

Springtime has arrived in the Northeastern U.S. and I took my K-3ii & 55-300 DA L lens along for my first golf outing of the season. These photos were taken at the Riverwinds Golf Course, West Deptford, NJ, overlooking the Delaware River and the Philadelphia area.

Here are some of the images I captured with my K-S2 and older SMC Pentax Macro 1:4/100 at the Butterflies in Bloom exhibit at Dow Gardens in Midland, Michigan. (This spring reservations are requested. Information is at https://www.dowgardens.org/)

The Reader

This is a composite of two different exposures in an attempt to pull more detail and tones out of the bright sky and the shadows in the rocks.

North Lookout, Round Mtn
K-1 mII, K500f4.5 & 1.4x-L (700mm)
Tripod and electronic shutter

We hiked a trail on top of this mountain a few days before, and noted we could see our house from the north lookout post. I took a shot with my K135 just for kicks, and indeed, our house shows up as an image a few dozen pixels in greatest dimension... enough to see windows and our deck, but enough that should anyone else take a photo of me while I'm standing on our deck from the lookout with a 135mm lens (and I'm satisfied up to 200mm lens), they wouldn't be able to tell that I'm in my underwear.

These two shots show how detrimental the mechanical shutter can be if your support is weak, as mine is. This tripod is out of it's league with this lens, but it's the only tripod I have right now.

Question for you all: How often do you offload and process photos from your camera(s)? I do it maybe a couple times per week, but some of you look like you're doing it daily?

Cheers and keep 'em coming!

Yellow Orchid

This orchid grows on our North facing kitchen windowsill. I have taken the image in situ witha piece of black card taped to the window as background. I used the K3 on a tripod with the DFA 100mm macro f2.8 WR.

Aside from longer trips, where I process when I'm back, I tend to process soon after I take the photo, same day or within a couple of days, then edit again if I am printing or posting for a specific challenge (I keep the raw files). I usually delay processing if I'm not sure it's worth keeping any of the images on the card.
