POTW #30 Oct 05-08 - Oct 19-08
Welcome to POTW # 30

This week's photos will cover these dates: Sunday September 21st till Sunday October 5th.

Let's keep up the high standard of shots we have seen over the past weeks.

Rules as before:

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week .
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Runs for 14 days. Sunday October 5th to October 19th.
5) Enter anything you shot last week or this current week until the thread closes.

On this second image, I zoomed out before the flare approach full bloom.

This third image is a composite of three shots.

Gary, thanks for starting things off! nice series, I like #2 best for the variety of interesting colors in the berries

song_hm, a pleasure to see fireworks shots "out of season" - I like your composite shot, you balanced the exposures of the building lights and the fireworks nicely

Here in my corner of the woods the trees are turning colors and the nights are getting colder, and there are wonderful photographic opportunities everywhere you look.

I have been shooting lately with just 3 lenses - 28mm f2.5 (Vivitar) 50mm f1.7 (Pentax) and 135mm f2.8 (Prospec) and really liking the results I'm getting. Shooting primes in full manual mode really has me slowing down and thinking about my images more. Here's some shots I took today, one from each lens.

(click for a larger image on any of these)

"Autumn Rose"

"Nice Catch"

"Blue Grass"

Play with my 4 yr old toys at mid-night after he went to sleep. Don't have much time to play the hobbie at daytime.
The picture was taken by K200D, Chinon 50mm F1.9 lens.

One for a smile.

This sign brought a real chuckle. Couldn't miss a photo.
After all, what did they think I was going to do. wait around totry and pet the snake or something?? Most Australian snakes are very venomous. particularly Brown snakes, which are common in the area.

Thanks for startin the new POTW, Gary! I am exited about your opening photos, specially of the first one. Is that the same lichen, we have here in our coniferous forests? I mean that green-grey species, which I think is Usnea in English, We say here in Finland that it is a proof on clean air, as it does not grow in a polluted air! Did you have to climb to higher ground to shoot that?

Song, great fireworks and cityscape!

Tim, beautiful images!

Ohce, those are happy looking toys, you have there! Keep them well till he wakes up

Definitely worth a big grin, Bruce!

James, I like the high key characteristic of the first photo! What's that in the second, A balloon?

Here are two of mine, two rigs, one natural and one man made:

Georg, yes I was quite high up. I like your shot of the trees.

James, I like your first shot, I like the way the dashboard looks.

Yesterday, I picked up a Pentax-A 28mm f/2.8 I found on craigslist. Today I went for a walk near my office to try it out. Here are a few of the shots from my new-to-me a 28mm. I have to say, I like this lens.

Thanks for starting the POTW Gary Life has got in the way this week. I have not even taken the K10D out of the bag a rare occurrence for me and the rest of the week and weekend don't look so good either ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Gary - I like your tree series. I like the berries the best well done.

Song_hm - nice silhouette in #1 really adds to the night life. Love the fireworks as well.

Tim - nice series love the autumn rose. Autumn is here as well with winter not too far behind ....

ohce - welcome to POTW ! A 4 year old can be a handful for sure - nice shot of the toys !

Bruce - yikes yes I have read Australia is the place for poisonous snakes and what the heck is a Goannas ?

James - nice variety like the look of the guy in #1 and #2 looks like something you might see in New Orleans in a dark corner, very scary.

Georg - love the tree view have done that several times myself. #2 looks like it comes from a fairly large ship.

Frank - nice series looks like a good purchase. Really like the composition of the first and the last.

Birdman(Tom) - Stunning as usual . Great action shot in #1 !

Hope to contribute some pics before it all ends... .good week all.

Dave : a goanna is a large monitor lizard. Can grow to 3 or 4 feet long, occasionally much bigger.
We have one hangs around the gardens where I work. Old fella, we call him, one of the biggest I have seen. I will try catch a photo of one for you.
No poisonous but can be quite frightening when large.
A quick story, I was tending to irrigation pipes, and went to pick a black hose to move it. It as a Red belly black snake about 6feet long. I was within about 6 inches of it with my hand. Man what a fright. It moved off, but I was out of there....... Faaaast!
