Weekly Challenge #469 Backlighting
Posted By: EssJay, 08-19-2019, 09:33 AM

This weeks challenge is centered around light, more pointedly backlighting.

Post your pictures that showcase the unique qualities achieved when the main light source is behind the subject and facing the camera.

The Challenge will run from now until next Monday night, 26 August 2019. Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

A few of my own to get the ball rolling.

..........and I just noticed that this topic was used before. It was however a decade ago so I'm sure everybody's stash of backlit images have since been replenished. Carry on.

Just by chance. Walking in Penitente Canyon (Colorado) thinking about what sunrise photo to use and "hello?"

One of my faves.I liked this one because of the shadow and lighting in the background.Reminds me of the old sci-fi flick "Them"--charliezap

Sunrise at the top

amazing light after an early ascent of Petit Vignemale in French Pyrenees (3,032m). Spotting another climbing team reaching the summit just after us.

It's starting to cool off around here so of course my thoughts turn to my favorite form of recreation.
This was a cold and blustery day with fantastic snow last year. Last season was full of these kinds of days.

Taken at our neighbours cabin at Lake Diefenbaker. The primary light source is visible in the frame, but I tried something different with the alignment of ceiling lights, the people preparing supper and myself (holding the camera).
