#476 - "Minimalistic Imagery"
Posted By: Kerrowdown, 11-05-2019, 04:53 PM

Thank you to noelcmn for hosting last weeks challenge and for also selecting my wee bit of fun image as the winner.

All I'm gonna say about that image is... for all those years when I run off with the circus, it obviously benefitted and honed my animal training skills, to what you see here.

For this weeks challenge I've gone for something which I hope you will all find a little different... "Minimalistic Imagery"

This could have many interpretations, so I'm hoping this will stimulate some varied and interesting entries. It could be about purely a simple composition, a lack of colours, hinted detail or my favourite... the use of negative space.

The Challenge will close on midnight (GMT) Sunday 10th November 2019.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

One from me to get things started, which does in fact contain all four of my suggestions... ?

This was taken in 1988, when I was a high school student.

Pentax Spotmatic, probably Ilford film, self developed and printed. It's part of an old mining works here in New Zealand.

I hope it's been an interesting challenge, perhaps a too little off the wall for some... but ok that's this week over, so it's time to pick my winner.

Just to say also...many thanks to all those members who participated and also to those who viewed. Just a few mentions and comments from me on images the caught my eye, just in the order the images were posted.

noelcmn "Painted Light Switch" - Looks like something I could have well done myself with a paint brush, a popular choice of image going by the number of received likes.

charliezap "Rock Harbor Cape Cod Ma." - Just clean simplicity in this image.

PintofDog "Berlin Holocaust Memorial" - Very austere image indeed, punches with it a big message.

jchorst "Spiral Staircase" - Really interesting colourway and certainly minimal detail too.

othar "Staircase at the seat of the Upper Austrian state parliament" - A quite striking repeat pattern image, well seen POV.

cg57 "Blue Abstract" - I've no idea what's going on here... nor do I wish to know, it's just a great piece of abstract imagery that I could see hanging on folks walls.

For me this weeks winner is... charliezap "Rock Harbor Cape Cod Ma." I just keep coming back to this fine piece of work, well done.

Runners up... jchorst "Spiral Staircase" and cg57 "Blue Abstract"

So it's over to charliezap for next weeks challenge, thanks again to all for putting up with me.
