#482- From Above
Posted By: BigDave, 01-01-2020, 07:43 PM

This starts us off for 2020, the number for perfect vision! Last time we looked up (for clouds). As photographers we may have a tendency to look out or up, but how often do we look Straight DOWN from a height. For this challenge, the viewing perspective has to be in a straight (or near so) downward direction, and from at least 10 feet (that's 3 meters to you folks not in the USA) WITHOUT using a drone! I present one image from the great Alfred Eisenstadt (the image of the Southern Catillion) , and two of my own as examples.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Hi Markovo,
I do not seem to see the photo, is it me or is the photo deleted somehow?

OK, homestretch here, remember, the perspective is DOWN, not so much OUT. We need a few more!

Mhm, straight down is not that easy to find. Here is something from a little over 2 years ago.

Wading in Lake Superior

This shot was taken back in June 2012 when I was wading in knee deep water in Lake Superior along the Painted Rocks National Lakeshore. The clarity of the water was amazing and I loved the look of how the ripples at the surface distorted the pebbles and rocks on the lake bed. So I pointed the camera straight down while bending forward enough to not get my feet in the picture and took this photo. So I've got the perspective right, but I admit, the height is only from my (short) eye level---and I'm only 5' 1" tall.

Note: The date in the exif information is wrong. Back on that camping trip I forgot to check the date and at some point the batteries had died and the camera reset the date without me paying attention to it.

OK, I guess it is time to pick a winner.

Markovo- I could not see your image, not sure why, but it seems others could not either.

For the following, I see these images more out from a height instead of straight down (or nearly so) as stated in the intro text:
Gump
micaz49
Marina
RGlassel
charliezap
jacamar
benz3ne
cooks 333

Nice images, but not really following the idea enough

aaacb, SpecialK and noelcmm- OK, they are from above, I did not state NOT from a plane, so they fit the theme, however, none I liked enough to move them to the top

This leave the following:
eva- nice scene of the ground and nice framing

atupdate- nice image, but I get the feeling this was more of a close-up with the extreme WA, and the height was even less than robysues image

stephen- nice perspective, but I need more in the image to excite me

bruce- nice colors and composition. the meandering stream/river pulls the eye through the frame nicely.

vaskebjorn- great seeing from the bridge. Nicely rendered and a very nice CU of the blossom- Honorable Mention

robysue- nice image, nice seeing from above, nice colors and patterns. OK, you are vertically challenged physically, you were wading in the lake, unless you had a step ladder, this is the best you could get. It's in.- Honorable Mention

othar- nice patterns, nice depth to the image and nicely framed to give the feeling of depth and height- Third Place

Ramsey- Nice patterns, color and depth- a great image to hang on a wall or gallery- Second Place

Which brings us to the image from The Foto Guy. This is not only looking down, but is also thinking outside the portrait box! Here you were THINKING down too! And how do you get all these impressive ladies in the image where none is center stage? Put them in a circle! And what makes this great for the subjects, the image can be displayed in ANY direction so the owner can be the one facing normally up! Well done and well thought out!

FOTO GUY, you are up!
