#482- From Above
Posted By: BigDave, 01-01-2020, 07:43 PM

This starts us off for 2020, the number for perfect vision! Last time we looked up (for clouds). As photographers we may have a tendency to look out or up, but how often do we look Straight DOWN from a height. For this challenge, the viewing perspective has to be in a straight (or near so) downward direction, and from at least 10 feet (that's 3 meters to you folks not in the USA) WITHOUT using a drone! I present one image from the great Alfred Eisenstadt (the image of the Southern Catillion) , and two of my own as examples.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

This is my straightest down photo. I was standing on a bridge and this little lilly was underneath it, so I had to lean over the railing to get this shot.
Extra info. This photo is taken from 11-12 feet.

From a bus window heading down into Skippers Canyon on the Shotover River New Zealand. The scariest bus ride in my life, hurtling along just inches from a several hundred foot drop.

Five Sisters

These are five sisters where I wanted to show their connectedness and, at the same time, show their individuality. I stood on a ladder a little over 10' above them to get this shot back when I used a Pentax K-5. Still one of my favorite portraits.

I was going to ask about pictures taken from an airplane or hot air balloon, but I decided to submit this photo taken from the Dome, above Dawson City, Yukon.

Great shot! Am I the first person to wonder how much their parents spent at the dentist? I don't think I've ever seen so many great sets of teeth from the same family.

Looking back through my archive it turns out I don't take shots from above very often, but I was able to find this one looking down on Pu'u O'o Crater in Volcanoes National Park during a helicopter tour.
