Weekly Challenge #490 - Birds
Posted By: atupdate, 03-10-2020, 03:24 AM

Pretty simple, show me your best bird photo. You will find them in trees, in ponds, on land, and in the air.

This challenge will close on March 17th when I'm up and had my first cup of coffee.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here's a few examples

Good luck to all and give me the bird.

Is that after you've had coffee or during the drinking of coffee?

I just read the instructions again, and missed this little ditty in the process the first time, your best photo of birds, so I changed my entry. Hope that's okay, Tim.

I wanted to go with a shot of a crowned crane, but due to the delay of James Bond I decided to present you with ..... Bird, Spy Bird

White-fronted plovers marching in union as they chase the pull-back of waves to seek out little grubs in the sand at sunset. Photo taken near the southern-most point of Africa.

Definitely after. Great start so far. I knew there would be some good shots but I didn't realize just how average they would make my examples look.

One of my all time favourites. Heavily processed from a rather dull RAW image.

Great subject, I'm going to go with this American Oystercatcher, posing nicely since it was guarding the nest:

I seem to be having problems submitting posts, so my apologies if this photo has already been posted, I can't see it. My photos of individual birds are ugly ducklings compared to the other entries, so I'm going for quantity over quality. Chaplin and Reed Lakes are part of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network; there are public viewing stands within 150 meters of the divided Trans-Canada Highway. I'm not a birder, so the only species I can identify are the Trumpeter Swans. Photo taken with manual focus SMC A 70-210 f4, probably around 150mm focal length.
