Weekly Challenge #501: COVID impressions
Posted By: jacamar, 06-24-2020, 07:14 AM

Thanks very much to Vaskebjorn for hosting and judging our 500th challenge.

I thought that challenge #501 should reflect the new era we are in. Even for those of us whose health, families or friends are not directly affected, things have changed a lot over the last 3 months or so. With travel restrictions, people are exploring their local neighborhoods more than before, often with their cameras. Let's see your impressions of COVID from where you live - from directly documented scenes (masks, distancing...) to more impressionistic images that express the changing mood.

A few examples from me:

This challenge will close on July 2 2020 (Thursday) @ midnight Eastern Standard time, though I will likely close it off early the following morning.

Each week the new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

i have changed the rules a bit to allow non-DSLR Pentax/Ricoh cameras (most of my examples are from my Ricoh GRIII). Hope everyone is OK with that.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

I'm really looking forward to your interpretations of the theme.

As corona hit here in the Netherlands, I got myself an Irix 150mm f2.8 macro to see if I like macro photography as I already liked to get close up shots using my tele lenses (ok, I also got.a very good deal). Turns out it is a great lens and it also turns out I need to practice more
This little flower is really small, the green part is just a couple of mm. Oh, its also a 6 photo stack.

The COVID-19 pandemic/panic has spawned many oddities, irregularities and ironic moments. For those who haven't been initiated into the dark arts of curling, a bonspiel is a vigorous mixture of competitive curling and socializing, an early COVID-19 outbreak in Saskatchewan was connected to a bonspiel for doctors across Western Canada and one of the medical professionals infected was the president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association. Further background: when public facilities were closed here near the end of March, local curling season was already over , only national championships were left for aficionados of the roaring game to obsess over. As far as I know, there is no connection between the Nutana Curling Club and the truck and boat that have been parked here for a relatively long period of time, but fishing was the first sport opened in this province, at the beginning of May.

Thanks Susan - it's the only one that wasn't taken during COVID. We used to rent a cottage up north on a small lake that had a backwater with sundews and other plants. The image was taken over the side of a canoe, with my wife counterbalancing on the other side!

Ok the challenge closes midnight tomorrow and we need some more entries to complement the great ones received so far. The scope of the challenge is pretty broad so let's see your images!
