Contest #506 Serendipity
Posted By: SpecialK, 08-12-2020, 09:33 AM

Surprisingly, I won the last contest. This contest is for "Serendipity" - the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

1. Post one photo only. Optionally, add your comments.
2. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
3. I am rescinding the "Pentax only" camera requirement - it does not matter.
4. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for evaluation. Submit by August 19th.
5. I will pick the winner, who will then host the next contest. It may not be the entry with the most likes.
6. If the images are too big for your monitor, go into your account settings and change the display size.

Here are a some examples.

The perfect timing.

Accidental exposure at the park.

Weird sunrise cloud with moon.

Most often I encounter serendipity by bicycle. Shot this along a two-day trip from last fall.

I noticed this dog in Greece. He was sitting on the top of a building which itself was on the top of the hills. At that time I only had with me a manual focus 50mm lens and just a few seconds to capture the image. I missed a good focus, but I value this picture as a memory of how the most unexpected things can happen in the most unexpected places. When I think of serendipity, this is what comes to mind at first.

The colours of the beetle seem to draw from the flower.

This was in March of 2015. We were in North Carolina visiting our daughter when a rain storm suddenly came through. Not long after the rain storm I looked out their window to see this glorious sunset in stark contrast to the bare trees. I ran to get my camera and managed to get the shot from out their front door before the moment was lost.

My first lighting strike shot was serendipitous thanks to the heavy rain and a non-wp camera

Tracking this seagull to land on the light post, it was not until I got home I noticed the fish shaped cloud threatening to devour the bird.

About a month ago I wenrt to the beach for sunrise, I had never saw a "ray" like this come from below the horizon. I actually think it was clouds just below the horizon blocking the sunlight to appear like dark rays.

I was working from home for obvious reasons these days, when my new supervisor decided to do some micro management .
Best place for that apparently is the top of my monitor.
