Weekly Challenge #514 - Negative Space
Posted By: jchorst, 10-27-2020, 12:54 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the one and only Weekly Challenge on this our favorite forum!

Thanks to noelcmn for hosting last week's challenge and giving me the honor to host the new challenge. This week's theme is "Negative Space", a concept which I'm very much interested in, though I don't do it very often. So let's see what you have!

The challenge will close on Tuesday, November 3rd at Midnight your time.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I almost posted the same photo as last week, but decided to browse my photos a bit. I came up with this one.

I'm going with a very recent one from last week. This is an Eastern Phoebe sitting on top of a broken dead tree in a swamp. I just decided to crop it to 16:9 to remove the top of a distant pine tree that was at the bottom. I actually did shoot this as a minimalistic shot, so it is pretty much what is was intended for, on the same day in the same area I also shot a Turkey Vulture in similar fashion, but the phoebe is more photogenic with a better background also. I've shot quite a few of this type of photo in the last few weeks to submit as stock photos, but only four have been uploaded, and none of those has sold yet. Who knows if they will ever sell.

Weekly Challenge #514 - Negative Space

Iceland 2015 This trip was amazing and I cherish the memories. Making new photos was easy in Iceland as itís by far the most beautifully diverse country I have ever seen. At least that you can drive through in less than 3 days! Yet the dichotomy of the hilly landscape with the wide open crisp skies made it hard to actually focus on taking pics of any one thing. This was outside a small Viking movie set. Pretty cool to be able to walk through it for a small fee. There were real whale ribs left on the set as well, which was interesting!

Slacking on the roof of the opera building in Oslo on a nice summer's day. Nope, not taken from above

Waiting for the tide.

You can walk almost a mile out at low tide but it's 10ft.deep when the tide is high at this Cape Cod area.--charliezap
